Love
Vs Nirvana |
Blabbermouth reports: According to a posting
at The Internet Nirvana Fan Club, legendary NIRVANA producer Jack Endino
talks in his latest newsletter about working on the NIRVANA "With the Lights
Out" box set and explains why the fabled FECAL MATTER (Kurt Cobain's pre-NIRVANA
outfit) demo was not included (you guessed it Courtney Love): "This past
summer, we got word that the box set was going to happen, yes, really truly
this time. Having been semi-officially researching material for the box
with co-conspirator Gillian Gaar since 1998, it was hard to believe it,
but sure enough, the starting gun was fired, and it became a frenzy to
make sure we had the best sources, and the correct credits and dates. A
deadline crunch happened at the end, with Silva Artist Management (for
Krist and Dave) and Courtney's people (Peter Asher, for Sanctuary) trying
to agree on a final track listing for the box set, as the deadline for
the booklet art and layout got nearer. That's why there's a picture of
the FECAL MATTER cassette in the booklet, but no music from it; Courtney's
people decided that it was not really 'NIRVANA' (i.e. it's Kurt and Dale
only, so why share it with Nirvana LLC?) and held it back at the last minute,
which is why the set starts with 'Heartbreaker', which would not have been
my choice. [see full story for more]- Click

F-Bomb Leno |
Blabbermouth reports: Variety.com is reporting
that viewers watching Friday night's live edition of "The Tonight Show"
on NBC probably did a double-take when, just after the clock stuck midnight,
MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil turned to his bandmate, drummer
Tommy Lee, and said, "Happy f***ing New Year, Tommy!" Because Jay Leno
has aired a live New Year's edition for many years without problems, Peacock
execs apparently decided against using a five-second delay on the broadcast.
Because "Tonight" airs after 10 p.m.
and thus outside the FCC's so-called safe harbor in which indecent programming
is forbidden it seems unlikely NBC will face any financial fallout from
the slip-up.[see full story for more]- Click

Rock
School |
Blabbermouth reports: DailyLocal.com is reporting
that MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine and Alice Cooper are among the prominent
artists contributing to the soundtrack of "Rock School", a documentary
that focuses on the Philadelphia-based Paul Green School of Rock, which
teaches music to children by grouping them into bands and introducing them
to the catalogs of rock and roll's musical giants. Everything from AC/DC
to FRANK ZAPPA is fair game, with plenty of PINK FLOYD, BLACK SABBATH and
QUEEN mixed in for good measure.
The soundtrack for the documentary will
be a mix of cover songs played by the students along with the original
artists. [see full story for more]- Click

Cannibal
Inspires Rammstein |
MTV reports: The message posted in an Internet
chat room read, "Seeking well-built man, 18-30 years old for slaughter."
A few months later, a user responded: "I offer myself to you and will let
you dine from my live body. Not butchery, dining!!"
It wasn't a joke, and what followed was
far more gruesome and bizarre than the plot of nearly any horror film.
In March 2001, Armin Meiwes, a 42-year-old computer technician in Hesse,
Germany, killed, dismembered and ate 43-year-old microchip engineer Bernd
Juergen Brandes. While Brandes was still alive, the two dined on parts
of his flesh together, then Meiwes stabbed him to death.
The incident captivated the European media,
and provided East German industrial metal band Rammstein with some ripe
new material with which to return from a three-year self-imposed exile. The
track about the cannibal, "Mein Teil," was released as a single in Europe
last year, and will be the second single in North America, following "Amerika."

Park Tsunami Charity |
MTV reports: Awed, humbled and shocked by
the destruction caused by the tsunamis that hammered southern Asia earlier
this week, Linkin Park have teamed up with the American Red Cross to establish
Music for Relief, a charity dedicated to providing aid to victims
Linkin Park have donated $100,000 to get
things going, and they're hoping their fans and musical brethren will follow
suit.
"As a band, we were in a position to help,
but this needs to be a lot broader effort both by our fans and by other
musicians," Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson said. "If one of our fans
can donate $10, then that's going to help, and the faster we can do it,
the better.[see full story for more]- Click

Donnas
Don't Lip Synch |
AP reports: Members of the rock band The Donnas
were kind of glad when Ashlee Simpson was caught lip synching on Saturday
Night Live.
They were hoping it would show the world
the difference between acts like them who never use backing tracks and
acts who are all style over substance. Boy, were they disappointed.
"We thought, 'Finally she got caught and
she's going to get punished an everyone's going to figure it out and it
would be like Milli Vanilli, and everyone would return her CDs,'" said
guitarist Allison Robertson.
Sales of Simpson's album "Autobiography"
dipped for a week but then rose again, outselling The Donnas' "Gold Medal."

Expand Tour |
press release reports: During their live performance
on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on New Years Eve, Mötley Crüe
announced that, per intense fan demand, they are adding 25 new dates to
their Red, White & Crüe Tour 2005Better Live Than Dead, presented
by VH1 and VH1 Classic. Reuniting for a major tour for the first time in
six years, Mötley Crüe has been the hottest ticket around. Since
initially going on sale December 11 with the first 25 dates, the tour is
now #1 on Pollstars Top 50 Tours.
After the initial 25 dates were announced
at a Los Angeles press conference on December 6, fans in markets where
dates had yet to be announced took to the internet with Bring The Crue
campaigns, with thousands of fans using online petitions and the support
of local radio stations to plead with Motley Crue to bring their show to
them. At last count, campaigns had been launched in over 30 cities in North
America.
According to Billboard Magazine, this is
the touring industrys worst year in history. Despite that, Mötley
is seeing great success. [see full story for more, including all of the
