Whitney
Hospitalized |
AP reports: Grammy-winning singer Whitney
Houston got ill on an airliner bound for France and was taken Thursday
to a Paris hospital for treatment of apparent food poisoning, her publicist
said.
"Whitney Houston was rushed to a hospital
in Paris because of severe vomiting. She was sick on the aircraft," said
Nancy Seltzer, her Los Angeles publicist. "She is doing well. She has gastroenteritis."
Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the
stomach and the intestines. Seltzer didn't know the source of the food
poisoning. [see full story for more]- Click

Staind
Sued |
Cyber Lawyer reports: Ohio musician Jon Stainbrook
has initiated litigation in the US Patent and Trademark Office against
Elektra Entertainment recording artists STAIND based upon his trademark
rights originating in 1980 for THE STAIN. Stainbrooks recordings have
been featured on ESPN, Disney, FOX, and MTV and in commercials for Vision
Street Wear, Mountain Dew, and Jose Cuervo. The band STAIND has sold more
than eight million albums and has twice topped the Billboard Album Charts.
The parties dispute began in November
2003 when STAIND unsuccessfully sued Stainbrook in New York Federal Court.
Stainbrook responded by initiating the present litigation with the US Patent
and Trademark Office requesting cancellation of STAINDs trademarks. Stainbrook
alleges STAINDs trademarks are invalid, because they were obtained by
STAIND through fraudulent statements to the US Patent and Trademark Office.
If the cancellation proceeding is successful, STAIND could be required
by a federal court to change the name of their band and discontinue distribution
of all products labeled STAIND. Stainbrook has previously prevailed in
two federal lawsuits relating to THE STAIN trademark. [see full story for

Double

FMQB reports: Could the reunited Pixies be
hitting the road once again later this year? The band's agent, Marc Geiger,
told Billboard, "We're looking at playing two shows in one night in the
same market, with combination tickets. The first show would be a set of
rare songs and B-sides, and the second would be the hits." Geiger also
said there could be a Pixies tour of amphitheaters in July.-

Philly
Rockless |
FMQB reports: No, it wasn't a stunt, at 11:50
p.m., as the last chords of Pearl Jam "Alive" faded away, Radio One ditched
the Modern Rock format on WPLY (Y100)/ Philadelphia and moved it's Rhythmic
CHR WPHI (The Beat) from 103.9 to Y100's 100.3 signal. The 103.9 signal
immediately began running a loop of five different promos directing listeners
to 100.3 The Beat.
This marks the second time that Radio One
has killed the Modern Rock format in Philadelphia. Oddly enough, the first
was when the company bought "WDRE/Philly" (WIBF, now WPHI 103.9 The Beat)
and let the staff go. The WDRE staff later landed at Y100, which Radio
One eventually acquired from owner Dan Lerner, and is pretty much the same
group of people that Radio One is now letting go again. [see full story

tinfoil.music reports: Gizmodo's favorite
grey-market MP3 supplier AllofMP3.com is under investigation by the Russian
police on behalf of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry
of Moscow (their RIAA). While AllofMP3 has forever maintained that they
purchased their licenses in bulk from a clearinghouse, (Costco?) through
the Russian Multimedia and Internet Society, now the IFPI is saying those
are hardly legit. Or not legit at all. The days of 10 cent songs may be
coming to an end, at least from this outlet. [see full story for more]-

Lisa
Marie Presley Dirty Laundry |
Capitol Records reports: If anyone's particularly
well suited to taking on bloodthirsty newscasters in song, it's Lisa Marie
Presley. Listening to her blistering rendition of "Dirty Laundry," the
first single from her new album, Now What, it's apparent that the song,
a sardonic indictment of the broadcast news industry, may be even more
relevant now than when Don Henley and Danny Kortchmar penned it some 23
years ago.
In the week preceding the album's release,
Presley will appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (March 28th), "Good Morning
America" (March 29th) and "Late Show With David Letterman" (April 1st).
She'll be a guest on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on April 5th, the day of
release. ABC is currently using Presley's version of "Dirty Laundry" in
promos for its hit show "Desperate Housewives." [see full story for more]-
