Hall Vs Jews |
Reuters reports: The Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame and Museum is all shook up -- or as they might say in Yiddish, all
"verklempt" (upset) -- over the name for a virtual museum celebrating the
Jewish contribution to rock music.
The Cleveland-based museum has asked a
federal judge to stop two journalists and a radio company executive from
putting up a Web site called the Jewish Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, saying
the site will infringe on the original's trademark name and that the public
would confuse the two. [see full story for more]- Click

Brother Dies |
AP reports: Keith Knudsen, the longtime Doobie
Brothers drummer who was part of the band during a string of hits that
included "Taking it to the Streets" and "Black Water," died of pneumonia
Tuesday. He was 56.
Knudsen had been hospitalized for more
than a month, according to the band's longtime manager Bruce Cohn.
Knudsen began drumming in eighth grade
and joined the Doobie Brothers in 1974. "After a week's rehearsal, I went
on the road with the band," Knudsen said in his biography on the band's
Web site. [see full story for more]- Click

Jack White? |
AP reports: Jack White of the White Stripes
nearly traded in his trademark red and white outfits for a priest's robe
and collar.
As a young teen, the 29-year-old rocker
was nearly on the road to divinity school when an amplifier changed his
mind.
"I'd got accepted to the seminary in Wisconsin
and I was going to become a priest, but at the last second I thought, `I'll
just go to public school,'" White said in an interview to air on "60 Minutes
Wednesday." "I had just gotten a new amplifier in my bedroom and I didn't
think I was allowed to take it with me." [see full story for more]-

Dive Felony |
Blabbermouth reports: The Associated Press
is reporting that a man charged with injuring two women when he dived off
the stage at a heavy metal concert said he never realized someone in the
crowd could be hurt.
Joseph Seink wept Monday (Feb. 7) while
testifying in his trial on two counts of felonious assault. Authorities
say two 28-year-old Cleveland women each suffered a cracked neck vertebra
but no serious spinal damage when the 195-pound Seink landed on them last
June 4 at Scene Pavilion downtown.
"The last thing I wanted was to hurt anybody,"
Seink testified during his one-day trial in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas
Court.
He could be sentenced to two to eight years
in prison if convicted of both charges, said Jamie Dalton, a spokeswoman
for the county prosecutor's office.[see full story for more]-

Slapp
of the Day: The L Word |
[The following is an opinion column. If you
only came here for news or are easily offended by other people's opinions,
then you can skip this] I promised that I wouldn't restrict my slapps to
just music, so today I am gonna slapp a cable network. Why not? Fox felt
all alone with the last slapp action and Showtime just earned my Academy
of Slapp Science Slappworthy Achievement Award. First they cancel one of
the best Sci-Fi series on television (a show called Odyssey 5) but just
today I learned they killed the best show to ever grace their airwaves,
"Dead Like Me". A show that almost had it all; wit, sarcasm, offensive
language, cute actresses, fun storylines and it wasn't like every other
goddamn show on TV! The critics actually got it right for once and heaped
praise on the show. So what did Showtime do? They cancelled it. Why? Because
they forgot the most important element in any successful TV show in this
day and age Lesbians.
