Willie's
Songs |
press release reports: In a truly remarkable
accomplishment in 2004, each of four new Willie Nelson albums--one studio,
two live and one compilation--reached the Top 30 of the Country chart.
Willie proved he was still the renegade spirit of American music. Now a
new retrospective, Songs (Lost Highway/Hip-O/UTV Records/UMe), released
February 15th, 2005, spans 40-plus years of Willies recordings for the
first time, from his original 1961 demo for Crazy and his first Top 10
(1962s Touch Me) to songs from 2002s hit albums The Great Divide and
Stars & Guitars. Willies signature songs are all featured on this
release.
Delving into each decade and chapter of
his songbook, culled from six record labels and with duets with Lee Ann
Womack, B.B. King, Brian McKnight, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings,
Songs defines Willie much as he has defined Country. For new fans as well
as those from back in the day, even with the plethora of Willie compilations,
the one-CD Songs is unique by updating his formidable legend--nearly half
of its 20 digitally remastered selections are culled from the 90s and
00s. The packages booklet also features an essay by Grammy-winning Country
music historian Colin Escott.[see full story for more]-

Day in Rock reports: A quick update on the
latest Raven's Heart Foundation auction items. If you haven't bid on the
Iron Maiden guitar and photo, better do it quick! The next couple of items
on the auction block come from Mastodon. The big item here is a ONE OF
A KIND "Leviathan" posterboard signed by the band. This is definite piece
of Mastodon history as it was made for an instore appearance that didn't
happen. It is signed by Troy Sanders, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher and Brann
Dailor. If you miss out on that one you might be able to place the winning
big for an autographed vinyl version of "Leviathan". The band and Relapse
Records were cool enough to donate these items for a very worthy cause.

Slapp
of the Day: Jacko & The Wacko Media |
reports: [The following is an opinion column.
If you only came here for news or are easily offended by other people's
opinions, then you can skip this] I want to start out by saying, thank
you to all the fellow haters that voiced your support for my silly little
column. Apart from a drunken Nikki Sixx wanna be, after Friday's self indulgent
slapp, everyone sent in and posted supported comments that they want the
slapps to go on. I'll do my best. So slapps to all of you! Now on to today's
slapp and for a Monday it's a double slapp! But far more serious ones than
usual.
Are you ready for the Jacko trial circus
and the media overload that goes with it? In the coming months it is going
to be impossible to avoid this story and it will make the coverage of the
Scott Peterson trial seem as short lived as the Baha Men's career. I know
it is predicable for me to slapp ol' Wacko Jacko. It's the new sport. I
mean this guy was just asking for trouble. Earth people tend to frown on
grown men sharing their beds with boys, no matter how innocent you say
it is. It just isn't done. Holding a boy's hand during an interview doesn't
exactly send the right message either, especially when there had been accusations
in the past of pin the tail on the little boy at the Neverland Ranch. That
being said, I have not seen the evidence against Jacko and in this country
you are supposed to innocent until proven guilty (yeah, like that is ever
really the case). So far Jacko has only been proven a major weirdo with
extremely bad judgment (just listen to his last few albums who's bad?
Though making bad music isn't a prosecutable crime, just ask Motley Crue).
Some would say where there is smoke there is fire (Are where there is Jacko,
there is Wacko). But a lot of things in this case just don't add up. Others
do (especially if they really did find porn with Jacko and a kid's fingerprints
on it), so I'm reserving judgment until the D.A. makes or doesn't make
his case.
