Singer
Gouges Out Eye |
Reuters reports: Following a suicide attempt,
R&B singer Houston has gouged out his eye while on an overseas performance
junket.
A brief statement was released Wednesday
by his Capitol Records label, saying only, "Our thoughts and prayers are
with Houston during this tragic time."
According to sources, the singer first
attempted to jump out of a London hotel window last Thursday. Prevented
from doing so by his security staff, Houston was locked in his room, at
which time the injury occurred. No additional details as to his current
condition or whereabouts have been disclosed. [see full story for more]-

Lamb
of God Banned |
Lamb-of-God.com reports: LAMB OF GOD has been
BANNED from performing at the Forum in Los Angeles. The band is being forced
to step aside from one of their arena concerts on the upcoming Subliminal
Verses Tour with Slipknot.
The venue, The Forum in Los Angeles, is
owned by The Faithful Central Bible Church who decided to impose a ruling
to BAN LAMB OF GOD from performing at their venue.
LAMB OF GOD have come off of several extremely
successful headlining runs through L.A. in the last year, so this move
comes completely unexpected for the band and the tour as a whole. Los Angeles
is, and has always been, a huge market for the band, building steadily
with each one of their releases and tours and exploding with the bands
current release Ashes of the Wake. [see full story for more]-

Star Jailed for Profanity |
Reuters reports: Jamaican reggae star Sizzla,
already controversial because of his lyrics attacking gays, was sent to
prison for two weeks on Wednesday after being convicted of using profane
language.
Sizzla, whose real name is Miguel Collins,
was told to serve 15 days in prison by a magistrate who said that he was
determined to stop artists and entertainers from using profanity.
Sizzla was charged with using expletives
on stage under the Town and Community Act, a British colonial-era public
order law that prohibits indecent dress or expression. [see full story

Is
Rock Dead? |
NY Daily News reports: Jim Farber: Is rock
dead? Not quite. But judging from its performance on the charts - and compared
to its biggest bands and trends from a few years ago - it's wheezing.
Cast your eye down 2004's Top 10-selling
album list and you won't see a single new rock band. The sole hard guitar
group is Evanescence - a holdover from 2003. The nearest thing to a new
guitar band is Maroon 5, which didn't make it on a rock song but on a soul
single, "This Love," and a billowing pop ballad, "She Will Be Loved."
Broaden your view to the year's Top 20
sellers and you'll find just one other rocker - and an aging one at that
- Prince, who gave away enough copies of his "Musicology" to place it 18th
in 2004. [see full story for more]- Click

Weezer
Update |
Weezer.com reports: The album 5 tracklist
(that is, whats included, not the exact order) for album 5 has been 97%
settled after some heavy listening sessions between the band and producer/mentor
Rick Rubin. A few songs got swapped out and switched around, and there
is high confidence in the final selection, which now includes a few songs
from the late '03 recording sessions that were originally left behind in
favor of the new sessions in July-October '04. Currently Rivers is working
on finishing up his vocals on 3 songs, and then the stuff should be 99%
ready for mixing. Meanwhile the artwork is underway, with the art director
assembling cd art that may include exclusive photo selections from the
recording sessions, fresh unseen imagery, and/or new photography taken
expressly for the album art. More when its known. ...as for the single
and album release dates: So far we only know that the first single "Beverly
Hills" SHOULD be going to radio in late March (exact date unconfirmed as
yet), while the 5th album (title TBA) SHOULD be out sometime in May. (everything
still subject to change) [see full story for more]- Click

Slapp
of the Day: Metallica |
First off mad props and a shout out to the
Emo dorks that sent their love after yesterday's Slapp. Your Ryan Seacrest
Fan Club membership has been approved. There, you have a little mini slapp
for today and that's all you're gonna get because I actually have something
nice to say about someone!
I just got done watching what has to be
the best music documentary ever made, Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster".
I walked away with a new appreciation and understand of the band. It's
real easy to pick on Metallica. We can talk about the whole Napster thing.
(But if someone was ripping me off I'd get pissed too.) The disconnect
between them and their fanbase (we can't expect millionaires to empathize
with working stiffs). Or that they along with Motley Crue rank right up
there as the biggest sellouts in metal history (I do give Motley credit
for admitting it). But after watching this movie some of my strongest negative
feelings are gone. Some on my lingering questions about the band are no
longer there.
[Scott ran long today. To read the rest
of today's Slapp and post comments about it, click the full story link]
