Vandals
Vs Austria |
Punkbands reports: The Vandals show on January
30th in Vienna, Austria was moved from the original venue, the Arena Club,
to Planet Music because the promoters got mad that the band played in Iraq
over the holidays. The Vandals had this to say about the venue change and
the reason behind it. "As a band with zero political songs, yet 10 about
diarrhea, we were pretty amused that the Arena Club in Vienna, Austria
found something to rally against in our visit to Iraq to entertain soldiers.
Here are our Top 10 responses to their decision to ban us."
10. If we turn out to be double agents,
you guys just totally blew it.
9. Vandals Good, Hitler from Vienna adjacent.
8. We only killed eardrums, promise!
7. Bravo! Fascist smear campaigns like
this sound so much more kick ass in German.
6. Sorry, we didn't know you were going
to get all French about it.
5. If we spit on our countymen and don't
bathe for a month can we come back in?
4. Boycott me, boycott you!
3. You could have just told us pre-sale
was bad.
2. Great. More time to spend in the Eagle's
Nest gift shop.
1. Shut your bread and cheese hole, the
spokesman for your country, Arnold Schwarzenegger, said this would all
be cool. - Click

MTV
Sleazy? |
SFGate.com reports: Approaching the first
anniversary of Janet Jackson's famed wardrobe malfunction, a study released
Tuesday criticized MTV for the "incessant sleaze" of steamy programming
aimed at young people.
During one week last March, the watchdog
Parents Television Council said it counted 3,056 flashes of nudity or sexual
situations and 2,881 verbal references to sex.
MTV labeled the report unfair and said
the group ignores the network's public service efforts, like its Emmy-winning
"Choose or Lose" campaign on the presidential election. [see full story

GNR
Feud |
AP reports: Rock recluse Axl Rose has signed
a multimillion dollar publishing deal, and that isn't sitting well with
his former Guns N' Roses bandmates.
After burning up charts and selling out
stadiums around the world in the late '80s and early '90s, Guns N' Roses
endured a bitter split, leaving only Rose and keyboard player Dizzy Reed
to soldier on under the GNR banner. Former members Slash (Saul Hudson)
and Duff (Michael) McKagan, now part of the band Velvet Revolver, filed
a lawsuit against Rose last year over who controls the rights to the old
GNR songs. The suit is still pending.
McKagan's lawyer, Glen Miskel, expressed
surprise when told of the Sanctuary deal. He said Rose, Slash and Duff
were part of a partnership and "neither Sanctuary nor Axl Rose have provided
the remaining partners with a copy of that agreement." He added Rose is
trying to transfer copyright interests in songs which "are not owned by
Mr. Rose." Guns N' Roses' manager Merck Mercuriadis, who just so happens
to be CEO of Sanctuary Group, said he didn't want to comment beyond the
announcement of the deal. [see full story for more]- Click

The former HOLE frontwoman is facing a

civil case, while another company is also claiming non-payment, according
to a complaint filed recently in Olympia, Washington.
WMC MORTGAGE CORP is seeking foreclosure

late husband KURT COBAIN's family, meaning the home would be put up for

Guitar eBayed |
AP reports: Fans of Peter, Paul & Mary
know a hot guitar when they see one. A handmade Larrivee acoustic guitar
owned by Peter Yarrow disappeared on a flight from Washington to Fort Lauderdale
in December 2000. It looked like it was gone for good until something like
it surfaced on an eBay auction.
Browsers recognized the six-string guitar
and notified eBay and Yarrow. The online auction company canceled the auction
and e-mailed law enforcement. Within an hour Monday, FBI spokeswoman Judy
Orijuela said, agents found the guitar in the Miami suburb of Sunny Isles
Beach. [see full story for more]- Click

Slapp
of the Day: Emo |
Can someone please explain to me what in the
hell Emo is all about? Is it an abbreviation for the politically correct
term for emotionally inept dorks with sinus infections that like to whine
about stupid things? I may bitch about a lot of things but these Emo dorks
take it to a new extreme. I think we need to rename it Whine-O. And who
decided that nerds with guitars was a good idea? Is it the only way these
guys can get laid? Did they see a Motley Crue video and say "hey, if those
dorks can get women, we can too!" Now I'm discovering there are even subgenres
of Whine-O. Scream-O, Lame-O, and the new craze in Mexico called Stupid-O.
Isn't this just the dork's offshoot of pop-punk?
Right now a few of you are saying, "relax
Slapp, these kids are just playing the music they love and besides they
are better than Limp Bizkit". But I can't relax. I just heard some idiot
in an interview last week say that The Ramones were the first Emo group.
Excuse me? Playing four chords and creating some incredible melodies and
memorable songs out of them is not equal to playing the same four chords
and whining about not getting laid. You're nerds, you are not supposed
to get laid! I see an Emo video and I think I'm watching 'Revenge of the
Nerds' set to suck-O music. The Ramones could be campy as all hell but
they were campy on purpose, Emo dorks are just dorks. They can't help it
and they are upsetting the balance of nature. Cool kids and stoners turn
into rockers. The jocks, jock each other off and become used cars salesmen.
Drama dorks move to Frisco or New York to try to become theatre stars (Clay
Aiken notwithstanding). Nerds launch multimillion dollar enterprises. They
are not supposed to try to be rockstars. It's the tradeoff, cool kids (not
trendy kids, they go into pop or middle management nothingness) get laid
a lot and nerds get rich the old fashioned way and find a nerd to marry.
It would be one thing if these nerds made good music but they don't. The
crap they play has no business anywhere in the rock world. By giving these
nerds a stage we are undermining the grand scheme of things. The next thing
you know the nerd that was supposed to discover the cure for cancer instead
opted for a 15 minute TRL career and millions will die. While the rocker
that was supposed to sell millions and make little is forced to temp at
your credit card company and screws up your bill (unless of course your
credit card company moved their operations to India). Ok, I'll calm down
now. At least we can count on the jocks still being a**holes and the drama
queens still being pretentious. But this Emo stuff has to go before it
brings on Armageddon by continuing to rip a whole in the time/space/dork
continuum. So to all of the dorks that buy this crap, consider yourself
Slapped. And please stop. Really, the joke wasn't funny. Stop right now.
