Richard
Pryor RIP |
Day in Rock reports: Today's Day in Rock is
dedicated to the memory of Richard Pryor. Though he wasn't a musician,
he was an iconoclast in the finest tradition. Here is part of MTV's news
report on his passing (see the full story link for the rest). Richard Pryor,
the comedian whose animated, rapid-fire delivery and powerful touch with
taboo subject matter created a body of influence that extended far beyond
comedy, reportedly passed away on Saturday. He was 65. -

School
Vs Dimebag Fan |
Pivotal Rage reports: The story of Timothy
getting in trouble at Lake Central High School for simply wearing a "R.I.P.
Dimebag Darrell" memorial T-shirt initially appeared in his local newspaper,
then North West Indiana Times. The story went on to say that Janet Emerick
(Lake Central High School Superintendent) read "Any apparel or item that
alludes to drugs, alcohol, sex, the occult, gangs, profanity or which are
offensive to ethnic or racial groups is prohibited." Basically making it
clear that she and the school finds the memorial T-shirt to promote heroin
use due to the "Dimebag" reference.
However once this story reached the rest
of the music community, I and surely many others who read the story instantly
said, "This is a load of bulls***!" This is an important issue that needs
to be addressed in our country and in our musical community, so I decided
to give Tim a call... "My study hall teacher, Ms. Pajkos told me that I
was a fool for going to the paper. Ever since that article came out, they
threw me out of regular school and put me in night school. Because the
teachers were ridiculing me, so now I have night school. Now I'm separated
from the rest of the kids. It sucks, I miss my friends." [see full story

Alrosa
Villa Blacklisted? |
Blabbermouth reports: [This is a little part
of a story about the Alrosa Villa, the club where Dimebag and others will
killed last year]Since the shootings, booking agents and a few bands have
all but blacklisted the 31-year-old venue. This year, the club hosted eight
national acts, compared with 20 to 25 a year before the shooting.
"We've lost a tremendous amount of money,
not because of Columbus customers, but because bands won't play here,"
club owner Rick Cautela said. "And no band from Texas wants to play here."
The Houston band KING'S X, which played
Nov. 12, was an exception, even though the band's singer, Doug Pinnick,
was close to Abbott. [see full story for more]- Click
