Scorpions Vs. Islamic Fundamentalist
Blabbermouth reports: HindustanTimes.com
is reporting that Islamic fundamentalists urged the Malaysian government
on Wednesday (Sept. 8) to bar a concert by the German rock group SCORPIONS,
claiming the band would corrupt Malaysian youths.
"Concerts like these are the catalysts for hedonism and vice in society," Salahuddin Haji Ayub, a youth leader of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, said in a protest note to the Religious Affairs Department.
"Research has shown how the crumbling of self-worth, morals and dignity in young people begin from deviant programmes like these," said the statement.
There was no immediate response from the government of this moderate, predominantly Muslim Southeast Asian country and promoters said that they planned to go ahead with the concert Sept 13 at a 50,000-seat stadium. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
Jet Diss Britney & Jessica,
Plan New CD
MTV reports: When your debut album goes
platinum and you win a Moonman for Best Rock Video at the 2004 MTV Video
Music Awards, you've got to come back with a big-time second record. And
that's exactly what Jet has planned for the follow-up to Get Born.
"We want to get Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson to guest on the album as many talentless people as possible," joked drummer Chris Cester. "We want as many people who don't write their own songs as possible. That's the whole point. What the world needs are more talentless people."
All kidding aside, Cester said that the band will play a "smattering" of dates on the East and West Coasts between now and December, then head back to Australia to "sleep for a month." After the nap, they'll begin recording their new album, which depending on which member of Jet you speak with is shaping up to be either quite similar to, or a vast departure from, the lo-fi leanings of Get Born. Chart Attack reports: Metal is big now.
And Lamb Of God are now part of a handful of extreme metal bands to receive major label contracts recently, along with Shadow's Fall, Killswitch Engage and Hatebreed, which is recognition this type of music has never gotten before.
"Nu-metal sucks, so that's why that's dying off," Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe says. "And I think with the socio-political and economic climate of the States, which of course affects the rest of the world even Canada people are ready for angrier music. I think people are ready for something that's real, not, you know, 'I did it all for the Nookie.'" [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
