Rodney Dangerfield RIP
Voice of America reports: [he wasn't a
rocker but Rodney rocked.] American comedian Rodney Dangerfield, who rose
to fame on his trademark line "I don't get no respect," died in a Los Angeles
hospital Tuesday at the age of 82. Mr. Dangerfield had been suffering from
complications after undergoing heart valve replacement surgery in August.
Born Jacob Cohen in 1921, Mr. Dangerfield began his comedy career under the name Jack Roy, but did not get his first big break until well into his 40s, after he changed his name. He made dozens of appearances on TV shows such as The Tonight Show and The Ed Sullivan Show.
Mr. Dangerfield became a movie star in such films as Caddyshack and Back to School. [more]- Click Here for the Full Story
Lennon Killer Denied Parole
AP reports: John Lennon's killer will
remain in prison for at least two more years after being denied parole
Tuesday because of the "extreme malicious intent" he showed in gunning
down the former Beatle in 1980.
Mark David Chapman, 49, was notified of the decision late Tuesday after appearing before a three-member panel earlier in the day.
"During the interview your statement for motivation acknowledges the attention you felt this murder would generate," the board wrote in its single-page decision. "Although proven true, such rationale is bizarre and morally corrupt."
It was Chapman's third bid for freedom. He was denied parole in 2000 and again in 2002, on what would have been Lennon's 62nd birthday. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Beach Beatle CD?
Pitchfork reports: So earlier this year,
when you picked up a copy of Brian Wilson's first 2004 release, Gettin'
in Over My Head and skipped over to "A Friend Like You", the highly anticipated
duet with Paul McCartney, what was your first reaction? Yeah, that's about
what we thought. Well, you're not alone. The general consensus among critics
and fans (other than that the album has the most God-awful cover art of
the year) is that while his duet with the ex-Beatle was noteworthy as a
historic musical event, the resulting track was unfortunately a colossal
misuse of both artist's talents. Well, according to WhatGoesOn.com, the
actual sessions for the song reportedly went "so well" that the pair have
decided to take another crack at a musical partnership sometime in 2005.
Details are sketchy as of yet, but the word from Wilson himself is that the two legends will reconvene next year to record a full-length album together. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Dio on Lineup Changes
Electric Basement reports: RONNIE JAMES
DIO spoke with Electricbasement.com's A. Lee Graham about the lineup changes
the band has endured the last couple years. On the departure of bassist
JIMMY BAIN, "...I was very surprised. When Jimmy left, we were writing
at the time. When we did the album, we contacted Jeff (Pilson), who had
played with us before. Jeff's reputation is great, and he's a brilliant
person, but the reality was Jeff couldn't play with us on the road because
he and his wife were having their first child. So Jeff came in and played,
so I don't consider him a replacement. He was only there for that one single
purpose.
"As for [guitarist] Craig (Goldy), he 's been in and out a couple of times. That shows it wasn't a personal thing. The last time he left, he left for his own personal reasons - not him against me or someone else in the band. He had his own personal demons he had to deal with.
"[Guitarist] Doug (Aldrich) left for good reason. The kind of music Whitesnake makes is the kind of music Doug liked more. That's what he played in Lion, Burning Rain and, now, Whitesnake. Slayer's Wall of Blood
press release (slayer) reports: For years,
artists have looked to create exciting and innovative stage designs for
their fans - thrash/punk/metal gods SLAYER will push that concept right
over the edge this fall with an effect dubbed the "Wall of Blood." Slayer's
Wall of Blood will make its North American debut when the band headlines
the Jagermeister Music Tour, set to kick off October 29 in Springfield,
MO (full itinerary below).
At select shows (determined by each venue's technical specs) during Slayer's classic song "Raining Blood," the band, their instruments, and the stage will be drenched by a downpour of "blood." The "Wall of Blood" will rain more than 150 litres of theatrical blood over an area measuring from 32-feet to 40-feet wide (determined by the size of the venue's stage), 25-feet high, and six-feet deep. The device is a dedicated truss and sprinkler system that utilizes a unique pump technology, and was designed exclusively for Slayer by UK-based Hangman Productions.
Slayer used the "raining blood" effect last July in Augusta, ME while filming their brand-new DVD, "Still Reigning." The Dean Karr-directed DVD opens with the the band's 1986, 28-minute benchmark album "Reign In Blood" performed live in its entirety by Slayer's original line-up - Tom Araya (vocals, bass), guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo, who permanently rejoined the band in 2003. "Still Reigning" also offers bonus material including live performances of Slayer classics such as "War Ensemble," "Hallowed Point," "Necrophobic," "Mandatory Suicide," "Spill The Blood," "Hell Awaits," and "South of Heaven," as well as exclusive interviews and backstage footage. "Still Reigning" has a running time of more than 80-minutes and a confirmed November 2, 2004 release date. [see full story for more, including dates]- Click Here for the Full Story
