that will drive an upcoming rarities disc.

Metallica Blackmail?
Blabbermouth reports: Amid ongoing Atlantic-Elektra
roster cuts, money-minting rockers METALLICA choose to leave, causing a
stir by opting out of the new WMG East Coast order and heading for Tom
Whalley's Warner Bros. How did they pull it off? Buzzers buzzing that the
band's tactics involved telling Edgar Bronfman Jr. and Lyor Cohen that
they would not deliver another album unless the execs allowed the move
a new METALLICA record clearly being more important to WMG than to the
band, given the proportion of METALLICA revenue generated by touring and
merch. [see full story for more] - Click

GNR Riot Cop Testifies
CBC News reports: A Vancouver police officer
accused of using excessive force during the Gun N' Roses riot in November
2002 has taken the stand at the police complaints commission inquiry.
Const. Reg Forster is one of two officers who were videotaped striking people with their batons during the altercation.
Forster showed little emotion as he watched a video of himself striking two men with his baton in two separate incidents.
In one case, the video was enhanced, and in slow motion, showed him using both hands to drive a baton into Robert Parent's face.
He said he was scared what might happen if the surging crowd ever got inside the building and he described using pepper spray to stop people from smashing doors and windows.
"I've been involved in a riot before," he testified. "I know how vulnerable you can be, how things can go wrong in that situation." [see full story for more and video footage]- Click Here for the Full Story

MegaRehash
BW&BK reports: Dave Mustaine from
MEGADETH has posted the following in his forum at www.megadeth.com:
"Droogies!
I got to review all of the interview footage for the DVD or enhanced CD material regarding the remixes. I had just gotten done doing an interview with John Harrell from Burrn! Magazine and we talked about certain things that he heard and felt from (guitarist) Marty (Friedman) regarding Risk.
I went into the next room and the footage was playing, and lo and behold, Marty said he, the management, and the A & R department of Capitol were the ones responsible for trying to make Megadeth an alternative band. I was blown away that someone stepped up to the plate here.
This was not news to me, but it sure was nice to have him admit it, and y'all to hear from the horse's mouth what really happened. I wish Marty the best and hope some day to play with him again, but if his heart is not into it 101% then there is no sense in doing it. He does shred though, doesn't he? Kazaa: What Infringement?
Wired reports: Lawyers representing the
makers of the Kazaa file-sharing software, Sharman Networks, told the Australian
Federal Court on Friday that their client has in no way infringed copyright.
The counsel for Sharman Networks, Robert Ellicott, said the software maker is not the uploader of music files, and therefore isn't liable for file trading on its network. Furthermore, because the courts have yet to show anyone has violated copyright by using Kazaa, an infringement case against Sharman has no merit in law, the company argued.
"There aren't any allegations of actual infringement," Ellicott told the court. "The law is clear that to attack somebody for authorizing an infringement, some infringement has to be proved. Now, they have neither given particulars nor alleged facts which would establish an infringement and it has to be an infringement, of course, in Australia."
The software company has asked the music industry to provide it with the names and addresses of the Kazaa users it alleges have traded copyrighted works. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Metallica Pop Award
Reuters reports: In an unlikely double-bill,
hard rock band Metallica and folk singer/songwriter Jackson Browne were
honored at performing rights groups ASCAP's annual Pop Music Awards on
Tuesday.
Perhaps out of deference to the old-skewing black-tie crowd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the four members of Metallica opted to deliver heartfelt speeches rather than perform ear-splitting anthems. Browne played three songs, including the timely protest ballad "Lives in the Balance."
ASCAP bestowed its Creative Voice Award on "Lars Ulrich and Metallica," according to the citation, for the group's "artistic career achievements and for their work as advocates for all creatives." - Click Here for the Full Story

Bill Ward Speaks Out On Sabbath
IAYM reports: Original Black Sabbath drummer
Bill Ward has posted a statement online over at www.black-sabbath.com discussing
the reasons why he will not be performing with the band on this years Ozzfest
trek, it reads as follows:
"Dear Sabbath People,
This morning I received the very sad news that Mike Bordin is to play drums with Black Sabbath on Ozzfest '04. Black Sabbath is, and always will be an important priority in my life. I support Geezer's, Tony's and Ozzy's decisions to move ahead into Ozzfest '04 without me. I can appreciate they may not be overjoyed with the decision, and I'd really like to be with them. Nothing would please me more than to be a part of the show.
Last week I did receive a proposal which allowed no room for negotiation. It was a cul-de-sac proposal in my opinion, where the only answer was yes or no. I was asked to respond by Friday. May 14th. I wrote a brief letter of decline on Thursday, May 13th. I answered directly at the proposal, and left out any personal comments, other than I was sad to have to decline. What I did not put in my response was this:
I'm willing to be flexible
I'm willing to compromise
I'm willing to negotiate
I'm willing to play.
I understand and believe in a united front when it comes to Sabbath. I can appreciate the fallout from such a decision will upset some people, and I am so sorry. I'm more than willing to support Ozzfest in any way I can. [see full story for more of Bill Ward's statement]- Click Here for the Full Story

was officially launched as the sister site to Rocknworld.com (celebrated
6 years last month) and since then has taken on a life of it's own. I want
to thank all of our writers, past and present, for helping to make antiMUSIC
successful and also a big thank you to the readers, for putting us on the
cyber-map. We wouldn't still be here without either. It's been a wild ride
and we hope to continue in the years to come (as long as there are hacks
to bash, and cool bands to praise, we'll be keeping the hater spirit alive).
So thank you for being a part of the antiExperience! -
