Iced Earth Drummer Quits
To Join the Stern Show
siN's metal news reports: siN's reports
on the departure of drummer Richard Christy from ICED EARTH, Christy has
posted the following statement in defense of his leaving the band:
"Hello, Richard Christy here.
I just wanted to say a few things about my decision to leave ICED EARTH. First off, it was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I spent many sleepless nights wondering what to do before I made the final decision to leave the band.
The reason I'm leaving is because at the end of June I will be auditioning to work for a legendary show that I have been a fan of for many, many years, 'The Howard Stern Show'. Howard Stern's show got me through many years of working at a day job that I didn't really enjoy, my electrician job in Orlando, Florida.
When I heard that I was one of the ten finalists to try out for Stuttering John's job I could not believe it, it was a dream come true to even be considered. [see full story for the rest of his statement]- Click Here for the Full Story

It would seem that the lack of carbs is now going to Lavigne's head.
"I have always known I was going to be a star," she said. "I knew this was my destiny, so things have fallen into place." - Click Here for the Full Story

More Metal Moments
Day in Rock reports: TV producer Mark
Strigl checked in again to give us the info on the other segments he produced
for the upcoming "100 Most Metal Moments" that begins airing May 31st on
VH1. Aside from the two Ace Frehley segments we reported about last week,
Mark also produced segments on Jimmy Page joining forces with David Coverdale,
Lemmy taking a 15-year-old reporter into the studio and getting him wasted
and Tenacious D doing their now (in)famous song about Dio.
Since Mark was so kind to share this info with us, we're gonna pass along a plug for some friends of his-- Ostronomy and Captain T (We reviewed Captain T before at antiMUSIC and he rocks. In fact he did a song about Ozzy that ranks up there with Jack Black's tribute to Dio) There is a link between these artists and Ace, here is what Mark has to say, "John Ostronomy is best know for his musical collaborations with Captain T. Their sound and lyrics are heavily influenced by KISS's theatrics as well as UFO and alien conspiracy theories. Their music has been featured on MTV and VH1 programming, and has also received extensive college radio airplay.
Ostonomy and Captain T are currently in the studio with engineer Karl Cochran (Ace Frehley Band) recording the song "2000 Man" for an upcoming CD which features covers of Kiss covers." on June 15th. The cd will be packaged as a double-disc including a DVD
of rare footage and live performances along with other bonus material.
The album will be released on Immortal Records.
It has been 6 years since the members of FAR originally released the album, which was critically appraised as being a few steps ahead of its time. Recently, this has proven to be true. Water & Solutions has been listed in the Top 50 of Kerrang! Magazine's Most Influential Albums of All Time and snagged the #3 spot on their Most Essential Post Hardcore/Emo Album list. Many of the strongest bands on the current scene site FAR as an influence and cover songs from Water & Solutions. A few of these bands include Thursday and Funeral for a Friend, the first of which had the opportunity to perform the song, "Mother Mary" live alongside FAR lead vocalist, Jonah Matranga.
The DVD included with the re-release will contain the bands own personal footage which includes live shows, a "homemade directors commentary" from Jonah, plus exclusive bonus material, featuring rare photos, videos and never-before-seen footage of the band on the road. They opened the vault with this re-release and pulled only the best recollections to include. - Click Here for the Full Story
Jon Schaffer Boycotts Metal
Mag
Iced Earth reports: [Jon's post is rather
long, it has been condensed here, click the full story link to read the
full text.] Another thing I would like to address is the BWBK "controversy."
First let me say that at the time of writing this I have not seen anything
on Brave Words site or any "official" statement from them concerning the
issue at hand...
Our "boycott" of the magazine has to do with the way they "improvised" my conversation with the journalist for our feature story. There are people out there who blame the United States for all the bad things in the world just the way the Nazi's blamed the Jews for everything. The individual I did the interview with was one of those people. My problem is that the way the interview reads has nothing to do with the way the conversation went. Example: The first question out of this "journalists" mouth was "Don't you think the attacks of 9-11 were warranted?" It was not the big paragraph of text that the "journalist" wrote in the article where he is stating that due to some of the U.S. foreign policies there are those around the world that feel we deserved to be attacked. That was not the way the question was asked. It was "Don't you feel the attacks of 9-11 were warranted?" The questions got worse from there and any fair minded person that would hear the conversation in its true form, I believe, would be offended as well.
I challenged the journalist during our conversation to print the conversation the way it was or that he'd be the one who would have to live with a dishonest conscience and face the consequences. I see the choice that's been made. Why am I surprised? People with these radical views, no matter the ideology, are rarely honest with themselves let alone anyone else.
This "boycott" has nothing to do with the fact that we disagree about certain issues, I believe deeply in free speech, intelligent debate and intelligent dissent... this comes down to taking a stand against s***ty journalism. We've been dealing with this kind of thing for years, like all bands do, but this time the seriousness of the underlying issue warranted a more drastic response.- Click Here for the Full Story
