Fans Honor Burton
Blabbermouth reports: Members of the Swedish
METALLICA forum Metallica.nu have joined forces in launching a project
that they hope will result in a stone being erected in the memory of former
bass player of METALLICA, Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident just
outside Ljungby, Sweden in 1986.
"Everyone that we have spoken to [is] positive to this project and wants to support us as much as they can," reads a post on the project's web site. "For example Aftonbladet (the leading newspaper in Sweden). "After some research that we have done we've heard that this project has been 'up on the carpet' before, but for some reason have not come to a conclusion." - Click Here for the Full Story
Fear Factory on MP3s
Blabbermouth reports: FEAR FACTORY drummer
Raymond Herrera recently spoke to Rock Confidential about illegal music
downloading and the various ways in which artists try to make their product
more appealing to the fans.
"Bands could have better packaging," he said. "Give people a better product, better artwork. The complete package has to be more than what they've been used to in the past. The other thing is the price of the music. I think that's the main reason for the downloading. If music was cheaper I think people would think twice about wanting to download it because you'd get better quality if you bought it. Most downloading is MP3. I don't have anything against MP3s because it's an easy way to move music across the Internet. The quality is just not there. Why spend $2-3-400,000 on a record if at the end of the day people are just going to download the MP3s? It's an insult as well. I think it's cool if you can go online and get music that you can't buy, like a lot of really old music that you can't get any more. That's a really great reason to have it on the Internet. New music that's not even out yet to have it available on the internet to people for free, that's bad. Especially for the bands. That's what is killing the industry. It's not the other way around. I don't have a problem with people downloading music. People can do it all day long if they want. If it's not even out yet, that's what is killing bands. Nipplegate Accident
AP reports: Unlike the last time she appeared
on CBS, Janet Jackson was bleeped by censors Monday while talking to David
Letterman for saying "Jesus."
The exclamation, made in apparent exasperation as Letterman asked the singer about her famed Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction," was edited out for broadcast, a show spokesman said.
Jackson told Letterman that her breast-baring, when a piece of clothing was yanked off by duet partner Justin Timberlake during the halftime show, "was totally an accident. It wasn't a stunt."
Another piece of clothing was to have been in place to conceal the breast from view, said Jackson, who conceded the maneuver wasn't rehearsed. - Click Here for the Full Story
Will CBS bleeping the word "Jesus" cause a whole new uproar? Maybe that is what they want?

Life After Buckcherry
Electric Basement reports: Former BUCKCHERRY
frontman JOSH TODD spoke Exclusively with Electricbasement.com on his decision
to join his new band via a classified ad, "I didn't really think the band
would work. It was just kind of a joke, you know? I just wanted to get
started because I'm a workaholic. I was about a week out of my departure
from Buckcherry, and I was in a newsstand just reading a magazine when
I thought about looking at the classifieds. I picked up a copy of Music
Connection and one ad just jumped out at me. I called it right there on
my cell phone. I just said, "hey, this is Josh, and I'm a singer. I was
calling about your ad." I just left it on the machine. That was it, and
they called me back, and of course I didn't say who I was. I just said,
"let's set up a rehearsal." They sounded like what I wanted. I wanted hungry
players with a new sound-A more modern sound. I wanted some people that
were hungry and weren't all filled with egos. I wanted a completely different
cast." Read the entire interview, including details on the Buckcherry breakup

Rock Star Manslaughter
Ananova reports: French rock star Bertrand
Cantat has been found guilty of beating his movie-star girlfriend to death
and sentenced to eight years in prison.
The 40-year-old lead singer of one of France's most popular bands, Noir Desir (Black Desire), was charged with manslaughter for killing 41-year-old French actress Marie Trintignant in a hotel room in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius last July.
The three-judge panel at the Vilnius District Court could have handed Cantat a maximum 15-year sentence. The love affair between the two artists was once the focus of public fascination in France, where fans were shaken by the killing in Vilnius.
Trintignant, who often played brutalised women in more than 30 French and several English-language films, was in Lithuania making a film when the two had the fatal dispute in their hotel.
During the trial, Cantat admitted he tussled with Trintignant, but insisted her death was a tragic accident. - Click Here for the Full Story

Tuesday
Source - MTV
reports: Welcome to this week's edition
of the Tuesday Source, where we look at one of the sites that is used as
a source for The Day in Rock remember without these cool rock news sources,
there wouldn't be a Day in Rock.
This week we look at MTV
Genres covered = multiple - focus on current popular genres that attract a younger audience.
Site launched = Feb 14, 1995 (according to Betterwhois.com)
Site Features = music news, movie news, political coverage (with the MTV spin in most cases), interviews, artists information, photo galleries, message boards, all the information you need on MTV programming, online store, tour dates, videos, downloads and a lot more including specials.
Site mission = No mission statement but it is the website of the popular cable and satellite network. Despite the usual complaints about what airs on the channel, the website staff does a great job of covering most forms of popular music. Because they are a dominant player in the music biz, they have the resources and reporting staff to produce one of the best mainstream music news sources online. Unlike the focus of the channel, their web news focus is actually pretty broad. While the main focus is on the current mainstream, MTVi News staff and contributors (including Jon Wiederhorn, Joe D'Angelo, Corey Moss, Jennifer Vineyard and more) do a great job of staying on top of news stories for artists that fly under the Top 40 radar, especially in their feature articles/interviews and For The Record segments.
