Nickelwhine
Net Music Countdown reports: In spite
of being a raging success with fans and appearing on multiple charts with
their album "The Long Road," Nickelback says there are still people out
there who are hoping they'll bomb out.
"When you become the top dog, you become a super-big target and when you become a target like that, you better go into the closet and get your three or four sets of thick skin," said guitarist Ryan Peake. "When everybody knows of Nickelback, they can make an opinion of Nickelback -- and everybody has an opinion of Nickelback."
Bandmembers shrug off criticism that they've ripped off other acts, specifically Creed. Comments Peake, "I remember playing for many years before they came out." The guitarist adds that many bands actually try to mimic Nickelback's sound, saying "It's a little weird, but it's flattering. Definitely people like our stuff and people want to sound like us." - Click Here for the Full Story

Last week, Sharon Osbourne warned Love to "stay away from my boy" and she mocked the singer on air, saying on her talk show that Love's plastic surgery "is this far [and then she indicated a small space with her fingers] away from looking like Michael Jackson's." - Click Here for the Full Story

Deep Thoughts
Electric Basement reports: Long time DEEP
PURPLE bassists ROGER GLOVER recently spoke with Electricbasement.com about
the band's new album, Bananas, including the details behind the band's
North American tour. One curiosity is why the band decided to market the
tour around playing the entire Machine Head album, the classic 1972 masterwork
which featured "Highwayter Star", "Smoke on the Water", "Space Truckin'"
and Lazy." Glover explains, "Well, we really want to get Bananas across
to as many people as possible obviously and it is not a problem in Europe
because in Europe we are just seen as a fairly big band that tours regularly
and we always put on a fantastic show and we have a real hard core following
but in America because of the radio and media situation it is very difficult
to get new music played. All that they want to play is the old stuff. You
know, we are a 'Classic Rock'band. 'Hey Deep Purple have a new album out?
Fine, let's play 'Smoke on the Water!'(laughs) It is an almost impossible
barrier to cross and I suppose the only way to do it is to play a gig in
every town on every night of the week. People's conception of who you are
really comes from the media and we can't control that. [read the full interview

Tuesday
Source - The PRP
Welcome to this week's edition of the
Tuesday Source, where we look at one of the sites that is used as a source
for The Day in Rock remember without these cool rock news sources, there
wouldn't be a Day in Rock.
This week we look at The PRP.
Focus: Metal
Online Since 1999 (according to site copyright notice. )
Overview: A great place for short and to the point news on the world of heavy rock. Also feature an impressive review library, interviews, release dates, a hilarious section called "Free Knowledge", plus a great section called "nuggets" which gives little nuggets of info on various bands.
Mission Statement (partial): ThePRP.com is a site devoted to music that's passionate, current and innovative, regardless of whatever scene or tag it may carry. Though we generally cater to the harder audience and enjoy heavier music, our goal is to introduce lesser known acts to a wider audience while also covering the established bands that currently make up the metal scene. This in turn creates a broad audience of heavy music fans being exposed to a variety of different styles, enabling the music to touch upon a wealth of different minds, rather than become trapped and segregated into one particular scene. (see the About PRP section of their site for the rest).
