On hearing of Ozzy's ATV accident, Cowell had quipped that at least the he might experience a rise in record sales. Simon told Sharon he hadn't realized the extent of the accident: "Someone told me that he had fallen off a quad bike so I thought it was the same thing as falling off a chair," Simon explained. Bride Confirms KISS of Poison
BW&BK reports: BW&BK Senior Writer Mitch Lafon spoke with BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION guitarist Tracii Guns this past Thursday, February 26th. Excerpts from that conversation include Tracii saying:

"We're confirmed on the KISS tour, but there are other things that we are holding onto right now that within the next ten to fifteen days might come through. Then we'll talk about what we're going to do. The KISS thing they just confirmed POISON as the second band on the slot, but that's the easy way out. Sixty dates with KISS in arenas sounds wonderful, but then again you're going on at 6:30 7:00 at night in the summertime. We are, like LA GUNS, a vampire band and don't wanna go on in the daylight. Plus, we wanna see what else we can match up with. There's a lot out there for a new band like us, so we're being patient. We gotta see what happens.- Click Here for the Full Story

Avril Gets Deep
MTV reports: If the 6 million fans who made Avril Lavigne's first album, Let Go, among the best-selling records of 2002 think they know what makes the 19-year-old rocker tick, they're just scratching the surface.

As her second album's title, Under My Skin, suggests, Lavigne's about to show them what lies beneath.

"There are some songs that are really deep," she said. "I have this song called 'How Does It Feel.' It's just a very mature song. Just me stepping back and looking at my life, talking about how I am small and the world is big. I'm a deep person and I think of weird things.

"[Let Go] was just a few things I went through and wrote about," she continued. "There's so much more to my life now."

[on her upcoming mall tour Avril told MTV's Joe D'Angelo] "It's kind of funny, because we're just going to randomly show up at malls," she said. "It'll be good practice for me to play my guitar every day." - Click Here for the Full Story

Ozzy Dis
Blabbermouth reports: Former TESTAMENT/SAVATAGE guitarist Alex Skolnick has spoken out about the experience of auditioning for and ultimately landing the guitarist gig in OZZY OSBOURNE's band, only to be told less than a month later it had been given to someone else. Asked via his message board what was it like playing with Ozzy and how long he played with him, Alex said, "I flew out to London, auditioned, Oz told me he liked me and let's work together some more. Next thing I know, we had this unannounced show at Rock City in Nottingham (where I had played a few years earlier with TESTAMENT). The show [which took place in June 1995 Ed.] seemed to go great (Ozzy choked me at one point to get me to move around more...it worked!) After the show, the crew thanked me and said they hadn't seen Ozzy look so happy in a long time. Ozzy gave me a big hug and hired me on the spot. I was on cloud nine. But what followed was a major lesson in the music business: I go home and don't hear anything for three weeks. Finally I called Sharon [Osbourne]'s assistant, who was surprised that she hadn't called me yet and that I should expect a call from Sharon. I sensed bad news. When Sharon called, she told me they really liked my playing and appreciate the time I put in but they've decided to hire someone else, Joe Holmes. With all due respect to Holmes, to this day everyone I've spoken to has no idea why they (or she) made this decision. I was told it might have been because Holmes was a former student of Randy Rhoads. - Click Here for the Full Story

Radio Idol
Billboard reports: Now in its third season, Fox TV's "American Idol" has attracted tens of thousands of aspiring superstars to its auditions. Yet Clear Channel Radio and many other stations think there are plenty of diamonds left to be found in the rough.

Radio Star, an "Idol"-styled contest launched Feb. 16 at 70 Clear Channel top 40 and adult top 40 stations, is a legitimate A&R vehicle, according to its organizers, who are hoping to find the next Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard or Clay Aiken.

The winner of the contest receives a Sony Music recording contract, a booking agent at William Morris Agency and opening slots at top 40 stations WHTZ (Z100) New York and KIIS Los Angeles' holiday concerts, as well as other prizes. Other stations might participate in the program as well. - Click Here for the Full Story

Wouldn't it be nice if CC gave a shot to bands that already have CDs out but don't have the big $$ behind them? Nope, an Idol knock off makes more sense. What ever happened to Free Form radio? I know a lot of DJ's subscribe to the Day In Rock, here is a proposal. How about a local idol contest in your markets? An hour a week featuring local talent and let your listeners vote via your website. At the end, the idol winner gets a slot in your regular rotations for x number of weeks and maybe have a live finale at a local venue? I know you're program directors will never go for it. But it could be fun and a great way to find your local idols and future rock stars. But if by some weird chance the idea does fly, let us know, we'll be more than happy to cover it here.
