Spinal Tap Darkness
Rockdirt reports: Hear/Say's Jeff Niesel
spoke with The Darkness bassist Frankie Poullain for a Q&A and asked
if the group is tired of being compared to Spinal Tap. "Comparisons? We're
not a spandex, hair metal band," Poullain responded. "We happen to have
curly hair. All rockers used to have long hair. It's strange they have
shaved heads now. I think the true part of Spinal Tap is in people who
take themselves very seriously. I don't want to name names because it's
a bit cruel to do that. I don't want to get into any sparring matches with
anyone. If you watch MTV, for example, about the making of a certain band's
video, you see a tyrant, overbearing egotistical lead singer shouting at
the camera man and all that kind of stuff. If you see that kind of thing,
you see Spinal Tap. It's someone in a crap band releasing crap music and
with crap sentiments on a massive ego trip. That's Spinal Tap not us. We're
happy to embrace the ridiculousness of what people think is ridiculous.
One man's meat is another man's poison, basically. We like to think we're
changing the rules."- Click

He Bangs A Hit
MTV reports: Fifty million Elvis fans
can't be wrong, as the King's 1959 greatest-hits album professes, but most
people probably wouldn't say the same about the nearly 38,000 folks who
nabbed a copy of William Hung's debut album last week.
His inability to at least sing in the general direction of the right key didn't stop the atrocious "American Idol" contestant from bowing into next week's Billboard albums chart at #34 with his album, Inspiration, according to SoundScan figures. Humble DuBrow
press release reports: Original Humble
Pie drummer Jerry Shirley has given his stamp of approval to Quiet Riot
vocalist Kevin DuBrow's version of the 1970 Humble Pie song "Red Light
Mama Red Hot". It's featured on DuBrow's upcoming "In For The Kill" solo
album on Shrapnel Records. Commenting on an advance copy, Shirley had this
to say. "It's really strange to hear someone do a song from this part of
Steve Marriott's career. People usually cover either Small Faces tunes
or they do '30 Days In The Hole' from Humble Pie. You've been faithful
to the original and it really has balls. I give it the thumb's up!" Shirley
told DuBrow. DuBrow had this to say about Shirley's endorsement. "Being
that Red Light Mama' is the centerpiece of the album and Humble Pie was
always my favorite band, his comments mean the world to me. I'm ecstatic!"
The album comes out sometime next month.
