NME reports: LINKIN
PARK have[has] been ordered[told] by the MALAYSIAN MINISTRY OF CULTURE
AND ARTS that they are not allowed to jump around, scream or wear shorts
when they perform in the country next month. [there goes 80% of their show;
with the shorts being 75%]
The band are[is] due to play on October 15 in Kuala Lumpur's 50,000-seat Stadium Merdeka, though they have been hit with a list of rules and regulations they must obey.[covered in the preceding paragraph]
Chester and co[.] have been told that they cannot make any provocative gestures or speech[how do you make provocative speech?], as well as wear any clothing or accessories that can be considered "obscene, linked to drugs or related to negative elements". [There goes the rest of their show]
The ministry said: "The government believes the performance will provide an alternative type of entertainment in Malaysia." [As in alternative lifestyle? Is Limp Bizkit touring with them?]
The code of conduct also states "Male artists must cover their bodies from the chest to knee level. The artist must not display rough, raunchy actions that conflict with pure values, such as leaping around, screaming or throwing something from the stage to the audience." [Stay tuned for the headline on October 16th, "Linkin Park arrested in Malaysia For Violating Pure' Values"]

How Rock n roll is that? You know what Lemmy would tell em! [Sorry for all the edits. I wanted to make sure the article had "pure value" and was censored properly to get the band used to the experience. As for the corrections; I know, glasshouses! (Meant for those who subscribe to the email version, which had a few big boo boos over the past week.)]
Metallica
Symphony Part II?
There is an interesting
tid-bit in this report that might interest Metallica fans.
Hollywood Reporter reports: Composer-arranger Michael Kamen has had a busy few yearsNo one would think that Kamen has multiple sclerosis.
Diagnosed with the disease six years ago, Kamen has not publicly spoken about his illness until now. He says it was time. He wants people -- those who have MS as well as those who don't -- to see that you can live with the illness and have a successful career.
Fatigue is not an option for Kamen. He is working on translating two films into stage musicals: "Don Juan DeMarco" (in collaboration with Bryan Adams) and "Mr. Holland's Opus" with producer Marty Richards. He also has plans to reunite with rock band Metallica for more orchestral performances next year. Their 1999 collaboration resulted in the live album "S&M: Metallica With the San Francisco Symphony," which has sold more than 4 million copies.
Kamen -- who has done orchestrations for such rock greats as Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Queen, Alice in Chains and Pink Floyd -- says he can't wait to work with Dylan again. The two first worked together to transform Dylan songs into orchestral pieces for the Great Music Experience at Todaiji Temple in Nara, Japan, in 1994.
As one of the few composer-arranger-conductors to fuse classical with rock, Kamen says it was a natural creative evolution for him. He began his musical career as a folk singer in a blues-influenced band and went on to study oboe at the Juilliard School of Music before delving into composition.- Click Here for the Full Story
We wish Mr. Kamen the best in his fight with M.S. and also request that if he does indeed team up with Metallica again, that he ask Lars to leave his pots and pans at home.
RIAA
Sued Wrong Person
The Boston Globe
reports: The recording industry has withdrawn a lawsuit against a Newbury
woman because it falsely accused her of illegally sharing music -- possibly
the first case of mistaken identity in the battle against Internet file-traders.
Privacy advocates said the suit against Sarah Seabury Ward, a sculptor who said she has never downloaded or digitally shared a song, revealed flaws in the Recording Industry Association of America's legal strategy. Ward was caught up in a flood of 261 lawsuits filed two weeks ago that targeted people who, through software programs like Kazaa, make copyrighted songs available for others to download over the Internet.
The lawsuit claimed that Ward had illegally shared more than 2,000 songs through Kazaa and threatened to hold her liable for up to $150,000 for each song. The plaintiffs were Sony Music, BMG, Virgin, Interscope, Atlantic, Warner Brothers, and Arista.
Among the songs she was accused of sharing: "I'm a Thug," by the rapper Trick Daddy.
But Ward, 66, is a "computer neophyte" who never installed file-sharing software, let alone downloaded hard-core rap about baggy jeans and gold teeth, according to letters sent to the recording industry's agents by her lawyer, Jeffrey Beeler.
Other defendants have blamed their children for using file-sharing software, but Ward has no children living with her, Beeler said.
Moreover, Ward uses a Macintosh computer at home. Kazaa runs only on Windows-based personal computers.
Beeler complained to the RIAA, demanding an apology and "dismissal with prejudice" of the lawsuit, which would prohibit future lawsuits against her. Foley Hoag, the Boston firm representing the record labels, on Friday dropped the case, but without prejudice.

Stones
Satanic Hit Again
Reuters reports:
The Rolling Stones cast a satanic glow over the U.S. music industry on
Wednesday as a reissue of their 1968 opus "Sympathy for the Devil" opened
at No. 1 on the singles sales charts, a spokesman said.
The six-minute song, in which singer Mick Jagger introduces his Luciferian alter ego as "a man of wealth and taste," was recently dusted off by the group's former record label, ABKCO Records, and remixed by a selection of hot-shot producers.
"Sympathy" was released in the United States last week as a CD single featuring seven versions of the song -- a pair of remixes each from producer duo the Neptunes, English DJ Fatboy Slim and another duo, Full Phatt, as well as the original recording. A slightly different configuration opened at No. 14 in the United Kingdom earlier this month.
Written by Jagger, and inspired by Soviet author Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and the Margarita," "Sympathy for the Devil" was originally featured on the Rolling Stones' 1968 album "Beggars Banquet." It also was the B-side of a reissue of "Honky Tonk Women" in 1976. .- Click Here for the Full Story .
Remixing classics is never a good idea. Who will be next? Beethoven? He's only a couple years older than Keith Richards.

Jimmy
Eat Darkness
RollingStone reports:
Jimmy Eat World are finishing their fourth record in a California studio
with longtime producer Mark Trombino. Due out early next year, the album
is "a little bit darker" than their 2001 breakthrough Bleed American, frontman
Jim Adkins says. "But I'm sure dark for us is nowhere near dark for most."
The band plans to record sixteen new songs -- more than will make the record. Already five weeks into the sessions, Adkins says there are a couple more to go. "No matter how much time you give yourself, you wish you had more," he says. "But it sounds really good."
One song he's particularly happy with is "Kill," which never repeats lyrics, even in the chorus. "I always wanted to try that," he says, "but it never really worked out." - Click Here Full Story
