Axl
Cries Wolf
Ok, that headline
is a bit misleading. It isn't Axl that cries wolf again but GNR bassist
Tommy Stinson who hinted in a new interview that "Chinese Democracy" will
be released early next year.
In June, Tommy made headlines when he eluded that the album may be released this year. (see story ) A few days later, Axl Rose told antiMUSIC that he was hopeful that would be the case. (see story) If Tommy's new predictions add up this time, then those original predictions were only a few months off. Not too bad considering how long this album has taken so far to complete. But for the final word on the matter, we will have to wait until the album actually ships.
Blabbermouth reports: GUNS N' ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson told the Boston Phoenix that after next weekend's gig in the town's Middle East venue the final date of his solo tour he will rejoin Axl Rose and company for what he says is the last bit of work on the group's long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy". "There's definitely a record, and it's definitely close to being done. And Axl's been super supportive [of me doing my own stuff in the meantime]. So hopefully the GNR album will be out early in the New Year, and my [solo] album will come out in February or March, and then I'll have all this new music to promote. Y'know, I'm pretty lucky with all this."
Great
White Cashing In On Benefits?
This is a rather
disturbing story that does not include an official response from the Great
White camp. It is hoped that they are not using last February's terrible
tragedy for personal gain. But from this article, it appears that way.
From Launch: The Boston Herald reports that Great White will receive $6,000 for playing a benefit concert in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on September 26. The show is part of a 40-date tour that the band is doing to raise money for the Station Family Fund, which assists families of victims of the Rhode Island nightclub fire that took one hundred lives on February 20.
The Herald reports that the band's fee for the Weymouth show is actually $1,000 more than what they were supposed to make the night the fire broke out at the Station club in West Warwick, Rhode Island.
Club owner, Andrew Rome, told the Herald that he was "shocked" at the band's fee when he booked Great White at his former venue, Liquid, in Leominster, Massachusetts. Rome said he was informed that the band needed the money to "cover expenses." The show was canceled when Rome sold the club. -- Click Here for the Full Story
Durst
Blast Britney, Borland Again
And in today's episode
of the leading musical soap opera "As The Stomach Turns", Limp Bizkit frontmonkey
opens his mouth again to spew forth venom at those he once held dear.
Blabbermouth reports: During a pre-show interview, Durst attacked departed axeman Wes Borland and said the guitarist had acted "like a f***ing moron" by leaving the band.
Then it was the turn of alleged ex-lover Britney Spears to feel the wrath of Durst with the frontman dedicating "Break Stuff" an infamous BIZKIT anthem with the apt lyrics: "It's all about the he said, she said bulls*** to the pop star.
"How many people out there have had one of those f**ked up days?" enquired Durst over the track's opening chords.
"I can remember quite a few f***ed up days just recently and I think I spent those days with that f***ing bitch Britney Spears."
Durst's comments come less than a month after he told the world he'd spoken to Spears and hinted they'd agreed not to comment on the subject any further in public. .- Click Here for the Full Story
Twisted
Arnold
E! reports: Tipper
Gore's nightmare is back. And playing at an Arnold Schwarzenegger rally
near you.
"We're Not Gonna Take It," the head-banging Twisted Sister anthem, denounced nearly 20 years ago as a kiddie-corrupter by a Gore-led group of Washington, D.C., powermoms, has been reborn as the "unofficial theme song" of Schwarzenegger's California gubernatorial campaign.
Dee Snider, who has heard his band's song used to rouse fans at sporting events and spur on the faithful at protest marches, appreciates the, well, twist.
"It's kind of freakish," Snider said Friday. "We were the scourge of Washington...Now we're playing Six Flags."
"It's kind of the unofficial theme song," Schwarzenegger campaign spokeswoman Karen Hanretty said Friday. "People love it. They relate to it. It gets the crowd pumped up." the 1984 hit, and every other song on Twisted Sister's breakthrough third album, Stay Hungry, was inspired by Schwarzenegger.
The album's title song, dedicated to Schwarzenegger, borrowed its very name from the 1976 comedy Stay Hungry, in which the former Mr. Universe makes an early acting effort. - Click Here for the Full Story

Grammy
Cheaters?
E! Reports: Will
next year's Grammys be decided by Bill the receptionist and Margie in accounting?
That's the question as the Los Angeles Times has revealed a "very suspicious" practice by major record labels: Enlisting office staff to cut quickie holiday albums.
The big deal? According to the paper, the labels may be exploiting a rule that allows any person, even the tone-deaf I.T. guy, to apply to be a Grammy voter provided that person has a credit on at least six commercially released songs.
"It's easy to manipulate voting by enrolling members of the academy who have no business being in it," Joe Smith, a former president of the Grammy-giving National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, tells the Times.
In theory, all the tone-deaf I.T. guy has to do is spend afternoon warbling [X-mas carols] and he could be granted academy membership, and, in turn, a Grammy ballot.
The staffers at Zomba Music, label home to Britney Spears, recorded those very same songs for their Yuletide release, Miracle on 25th Street, released in September 2002.
A Zomba spokeswoman denies her label had any ulterior motives with its holiday release, telling the Times that Miracle on 25th Street was designed to "lift people's spirits" during workplace upheaval amid a corporate takeover. (Here's hoping it wasn't designed to top the charts. So far, the EP has sold 34 copies, the paper reports.)
At Universal Records, president Monte Lipman says he thinks about half of the 100 employees who went behind the mic as the Universal/Motown All-Stars applied for academy membership.
Lipman says he encourages
other labels to make their own in-house recordings--on account of it's
a "very, very positive and rewarding experience."

Unloco
Officially Dead
siN's metal news
reports: UNLOCO guitarist Marc Serrano issued the following statement on
the bands official website:
Is unloco breaking up after these last few Texas shows we are playing? YES....
Are we breaking up because the label dropped us? NO....
There is a ton of different reasons why we have chosen to do what we are doing, too many to explain and make everyone completely understand....No one could possibly understand unless you have been with us for the past few years and seen everything as a whole....Everyone is very happy with the choice we have made, we all have different visions for the future and will each tackle our visions as we see fit....Some of us may continue with music as our primary career while others may pursue other ventures in their lives.Either way, it is what is best for each individual..We are all still very much friends and at no means enemies....We just all are at different points in our life and are ready to move on.
We thank you all
a million times over for being there for us over the past few years....
New fans and old, you are all amazing and we love you all deeply...

What
are they up to now special: Simon & Garfunkel
AP Reports: Unless
they get in yet another squabble, it looks like Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel
are reuniting for a concert tour.
The former duo has reserved dates at concert arenas across the country, said Gary Bongiovanni, editor of Pollstar, a concert industry trade publication. And they were scheduled to make a "very special announcement" at a New York nightclub on Tuesday, publicists said.
There has been talk of a tour since Simon & Garfunkel performed together to open the Grammy Awards ceremony in February The mega-selling folk-rock duo broke up more than three decades ago and they've had a fractious relationship since. They've reunited periodically, most notably for a concert tour of stadiums in 1983 and for a series of shows in 1993, Bongiovanni said.- Click Here for Full Story

Slipknot
Clown Goes Solo
Got this one from
an apparent fan or friend of the artist. This is unconfirmed: Sean
Crahan has been working on a mysterious side band called To My Surprise
for the past year and a half. Roadrunner Records is keeping exact details
quiet, but it has been announced that a self-titled album by the band will
be released on October 7th.
The debut album was produced by the legendary Rick Rubin.
Sean Crahan told us about the team he put together to create To My Surprise: "I rented a studio called Junior's Motel about an hour and a half from Des Moines. I have a good friend there, his name is Kirk, he's an engineer, he's a very organic hands-on kind of engineer. And I took a really good friend of mine, his name is Brandon Darner, he's a lead vocalist and guitar player for To My Surprise. And I have a friend Steve Robinson as well, who sings and plays guitar."
Plans for a single and video from the album have not been finalized. To My Surprise has no tour plans right now, because Crahan is going back into the studio in Des Moines. - More info and an mp3
