Greenday Scam?
In the rumor mill department, we got the following email from a fan:

**Green Day Fan Site: www.GreenDay.net posted some information hinting that a new album by a band called THE NETWORK that just came out today titled "Money Money 2020" on Green Day lead singer's record label: Adeline Records (adelinerecords.com) could be Green Day's new album in disguise.

I went and listened to the song posted on the adeline site as intro music, and there is NO mistaking it, its billie joe and the boys.

It's amazing they were able to keep it a secret this long, it was just released today**

A listen to the song in question does have the telltale, this singer needs to blow his nose quality to it and the band's bio gives another hint that this might possibly be Astonishingly amazing debut full-length from this exceedingly MYSTERIOUS new group.  Then again a lot of pop-punk vocalist sound like Billie Joe so this just may be a publicity stunt to help sell this CD..  Investigate and decide for yourself. - Click Here for the Full Story

Linkin Park DJ Turns Film Director
Launch reports: Linkin Park DJ Joseph "Mr." Hahn has acquired the rights to a dark fantasy novel called King Rat, by British author China Mieville, for his feature film directorial debut. The book deals with a London drifter who is wrongly accused of the murder of his father. He is then rescued from prison by the title character, who claims to be the hero's real father, as well as the leader of a vast army of rats.

Hahn told MTV.com, "My agent gave me the book and I loved it. It had a lot of elements I like. A lot of fantasy, a lot of modern-day culture, some background of drum 'n' bass music--so a little bit of everything I'm into." Pre-production on the film will have to wait until at least the end of the year, when Linkin Park finishes its current tour.

Hahn recently directed two more Linkin Park videos, for "From The Inside" and "Numb." The clip for "From The Inside" was shot in the Czech Republic city of Prague. "It's actually one of the best videos we've done," Hahn said. "It's about a riot that happens. We basically took over a historic square in Prague and let 400 people loose, and we performed in the middle of the riot."- Click Here for the Full Story

Matthew Jay RIP
Reuters reports: Rising British singer/songwriter Matthew Jay died Sept. 24 after falling from a seventh-story window in Nottingham, England, his label EMI said Tuesday. He was 24.

"His act would appear to have been an impulsive gesture following a professionally difficult year and perhaps, a difficult day," said a statement. It is understood that he was alone at the time and no note was left.

Jay's debut album, "Draw," was a critical success following its April 2001 release through EMI imprint Food. He went on to support such acts as Dido, Doves, Starsailor and Stereophonics.

"Everyone here who knew Matthew will remember him as such a lovely guy, and a very talented artist," EMI said in a statement. "We are deeply shocked and send our sympathy to his family and friends." Jay was said to be working on new material at the time of his death. - Click Here for the Full Story

John Lee Hooker CD on the Way
Very cool news for Blues fans

Undercover reports: Zakiya Hooker, the daughter of the late, great bluesman John Lee Hooker has completed work on the album her father was recording at the time of his death.

John Lee Hooker died June 21, 2001. He was aged 83.

He had started work on the Face To Face album with Zakiya and the usual array of guest stars including Van Morrison, Elvin Bishop, Johnny Winter, George Thorogood and Johnnie Johnson. Zakiya continued the sessions bringing in Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, Jack Casady and Deacon Jones.

Zakiya is now President of the John Lee Hooker Foundation, a charity to fund music and art education programs for underprivileged, underrepresented and at risk youth. Iced Earth CD / DVD / EP Coming
KNAC reports: Indiana-based melodic metal specialists Iced Earth have recently completed what can be deemed as nothing short of a masterwork; a ten song musical enterprise honoring the valor and sacrifices that made the world what it is today. Entitled The Glorious Burden, the band's 9th full-length album will be released through SPV Records on January 13th, 2004.

To whet the fans' appetites until the full album is released, Iced Earth is releasing a special 4-song single for "The Reckoning (Don't Tread On Me)" on October 21st (nearly 3 months prior to The Glorious Burden's street date). The single will contain the aforementioned song, as well as "Valley Forge," "Hollow Man," and "When The Eagle Cries (Unplugged)." Adding to the special' nature of this release, this version of "When The Eagle Cries" is exclusive to the single!

Shortly following the release of The Glorious Burden, Iced Earth plans to supplement the album with the band's first-ever DVD, simply titled Gettysburg. The DVD is planned to contain footage of the recording sessions with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, a full documentary on the Gettysburg battlefield hosted by Jon Schaffer (who discusses important locations/details about the battle, as well as matches the song's themes to their actual locations in the historic battle), a fully animated video for "Gettysburg," and 2 special DVD-Audio mixes of the song (a theatrical mix' and a metal mix').

In true Iced Earth fashion, a full world tour is also planned to ensue thereafter, thus perpetuating its own glorious burden'.

Letter of the Week
We're doing the Letter of the Week a little early this week. In fact, this one isn't a letter at all but comes from the fanspeak to yesterday's Day In Rock and was sparked by the silly comments appended to the Nugent TV report.

Steve writes: Is a good, unbiased news source too much to ask for? I've found that this site has the best coverage of rock music, but the random political commentary is annoying and usually less than intelligent. I'm not exactly a Michael Moore fan, but I hate Ted Nugent more than most of you hate Courtney Love. I don't think I'm alone in this, though someone will probably call me a socialist or something.

Keavin responds: Steve - 1) It was a joke 2)It wasn't supposed to be thought-out political commentary (see no.1). 3) The only real political commentary I have added to past stories was telling people to get the facts and make up their own minds (with a little of no.1 added in). That is hardly biased towards one side, unless you think the facts are against one side. 4) An occasional "political" comment may be added after an item if the article involves politics or the person the blurb is about is known for outspoken political views 5) As for the socialist comment, you must be speaking about some of the debates in fanspeak, which has nothing to do with the "reporting". But the fanspeak is there so our readers can discuss news items and those comments are as varied as you can get. 6) No one is pushing an agenda here; in fact our writers political views about cover the whole spectrum (from socialist on one end to practical anarchist on the other) so if you can't handle an occasional political joke, skip the little blurbs under the news item (and avoid Conan, Letterman, Leno. Etc.).

Steve later responded:  Wasn't trying to make a huge deal out of it or anything, just a petty complaint. I'm addicted to the site anyway.

So everyone is now happy, the end...

Eve 6 to Tour With Good Charlotte
There's no end in sight for the members of Eve 6 who have been out on the road since June this year in support of their newly-released It's All In Your Head CD.  The Los Angeles-based trio are reuniting with their friends in Good Charlotte (they previously toured together in 2000) on the second leg of the latter's arena tour set to kick off October 30 in Atlanta, GA. This four-week trek will take them through Florida, Texas and the Pacific Northwest before winding down in Long Beach, CA on November 28.

Phantom Planet Reissue
From Epic: Phantom Planet has an early Christmas present for those who can't wait until early next year to hear the follow-up to 2002's critically acclaimed Epic Records debut, The Guest (hailed by Blender as a "crisp, sun-drenched trip to a time when hooks were plentiful, guitars shimmered and vocalists sang rather than spouted").

On November 4th, the quintet Alex Greenwald, vocals/guitar; Jacques Brauther, guitar; Sam Farrar, bass; Darren Robinson, guitar, and new drummer Jeff Conrad (formerly of Big City Rock, Siren Six) is re-releasing The Guest with new artwork, which Greenwald describes as being like a yearbook. It'll feature pages of photos and over 120 signatures. Greenwald says, "It's a way of saying thanks to those people who helped make The Guest what it was." The Guest is the only place to find "California," the theme song to the hit Fox TV show The OC.

Phantom Planet will hit the road, with opening act Ben Lee, beginning October 22 at the Roxy on the legendary Sunset Strip in the band's hometown of L.A.

Gotta love that The OC doesn't include any songs from real OC bands.  But then again, it's not even film in OC. At least they are consistent!
