Britney Spears 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' Meaning Revealed

(Radio.com) John Seabrook, author of The Song Machine: Inside the Hit Factory, has revealed the true meaning behind the lyrics to Britney Spears' "hit me baby one more time."

As it turns out, the lyrics actually were literal. The song was written back in the late 90's by Swedish songwriters Max Martin and Rami Yacoub, who at the time, thought that 'hit" was American slang for 'call."

While substituting the word 'call" for 'hit" makes Britney sound way more desperate, and the song sound way less cool, it totally makes sense. Read more here.

Hunter Hayes Explains Reason Behind 'The 21 Project'

(Radio.com) Last Friday, Hunter Hayes released The 21 Project. The release features seven songs, each with an acoustic version, a studio version and a live version. Radio.com caught up with Hayes to discuss for the project, about being 21, and his greyhound Cole.

Radio.com: Tell me about why you decided to put out The 21 Project the way you did - showing each song a studio version, acoustic version and live version.

Hunter: Well, I really wanted to do something fun with some of the songs from this summer, and since they weren't really created or released as part of a full on record, I felt like they needed to kind of have their own moment or their own chapter of sorts. But since it was only 7 songs we decided on I wanted to give the fans more than that, so I thought it would be cool to finally put out a project with a live portion and an acoustic portion, especially seeing as how the fans have all seen how the band and I always love doing the weird acoustic versions of things. It was such a blast to put together and I can't wait to get the fans take on how it came out.

Radio.com: How do you classify this in your discography - is it an album, is it an EP -- or do such terms even matter anymore in 2015?

Hunter: Well you make a great point. Number one, it's really neither a record or an EP which is exactly why I wanted to do it this way because number two, I couldn't agree with you more that there are so many more options in with how we release music now and that really energizes me and makes me wonder what could be next.

Radio.com: Tell me about writing the song "21." What was great about being 21-years-old?

Hunter: Well, for me personally, that was the year that I really began headlining tours and seriously touring with our own show and I got to build a ton of different style shows and write a ton about life and everything along with it. Got my first place I think that year as well! It's funny how just a year and a number sort of feels like you're staring at the next big part of your life. Read more here.

Sam Smith Covers Amy Winehouse's 'Love Is A Losing Game'

(Radio.com) Sam Smith wins with his cover of Amy Winehouse's moving ballad, "Love Is A Losing Game." Smith debuted his rendition on Annie Mac's BBC 1 Radio show last Thursday (Nov. 5). He said he was inspired by the documentary Amy, where the song is heavily featured.

"It felt right," Smith told Mac. "I saw the film recently and people forget sometimes my age, I think. I was 11 years old when [Winehouse's 2003 debut] Frank came out and that album has really shaped me as an artist and my views on music and my relationship with music, lyrically. Seeing that film brought me back to that moment of being 11 years old and her rawness."

"That lyric, 'Love is a losing game' is possibly one of the most relatable lyrics," he said. "I tried to make it me singing those lyrics." Check out Sam Smith's interview and rendition of "Love is a Losing Game" here.

CeeLo Green Discusses Inspiration For 'Robin Williams'

(Radio.com) CeeLo Green released his new studio album Heart Blanche last Friday. Radio.com recently sat down with Green to discuss his first new release in nearly five years and its lead single "Robin Williams".

"I took it really personally," says Green of William's suicide. "It intrigued me so deeply, about how is that possible, the contradiction of the character, someone who's so convincingly and so consistently gave of himself with the most sincere smile, tireless energy and animation."

"So I wanted his legacy to be celebrated in song," CeeLo continues. "And also it's an opportunity, as music often is for me, to be cathartic, and I can address my own empathy about it, you know what I'm saying? Because it was very sobering; you get to reflect on your own mortality as well and the different things that have brought us close to a break. You question the things of what could actually happen in my life that could possibly drive me? It becomes you own inner dialogue about it, and it becomes something that you have to kind of acknowledge with reverence." Read more here.

Radio.com recently spoke with Kip Moore about the show, and why it is important to support our veterans. "I like to think that I'm a fairly tough guy," he says. "But I can't fathom being in battle, in war, and facing that on a daily basis and what that does to you mentally.

"I've always had such a heart for people who are fighting for our country and I hate it when we don't rally around those guys. We have such a freedom here, and we're so protected, and it's all because of those guys and girls. I've never been in battle, I've never fought for our country, but I've always understood what a big deal it is." Read more here.

Singled Out: Practical Lovers' Inside Job

Jack Wiles from the melancholy synth-pop duo Practical Lovers tells us about their single "Inside Job," which is a track that comes from their debut album "Agony". Here is the story:

Lyrically 'Inside Job' is perhaps the most emotionally raw of the songs on the album. It's about the feeling I had of being in love with someone who was no longer around, and the mix of emotions that seemed to blur together as years went by, until it was impossible to distinguish between real memories and my own feelings. Finally putting it down in words was incredibly cathartic.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the album right here!

Datsik had the following to say about the track, "Overly excited to have worked with the Doggfather himself...he's been one of my favorite rappers since I can remember; like straight up since I was like 10 years old.

"I used to steal my older brothers CD's and bump it in my room and one of them was his album Doggystyle. I wanted to bring back some of that hellafide gangster flavor that got me into it from the start and mash it into something new, but hella familiar. Big respect to Snoop!!!" Stream the song here.

Santigold Sets Album Release, Streams Single 'Can't Get Enough of Myself'

Atlantic Records have announced that they will be releasing Santigold's third album, 99 [cents], on January 22nd and have premiered the first single, "Can't Get Enough of Myself (feat. B.C.)".

The new single is available now at all digital retailers and as an instant download with select album preorders. The track can be streamed here. The label sent over the following details:

On 99, Santigold explores the commercial nature of our world and the ways in which we package ourselves and our lives for consumption. "We have no illusion that we don't live in this world where everything is packaged. People's lives, persona, everything, is deliberate, and mediated. It can be dark and haunting and tricky, and freak us out, but it can be also be silly and fun and we can learn to play with it," she says. She also explores our fascination with perfection and our inherent inability to attain it. The use of playful satire, social critique, and self-examination to explore these themes is reflected in the album's cover art, a collaboration with photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi, finds Santigold shrink-wrapped amongst her cluttered possessions ready for the store shelves.

Following her last album, the dark and cerebral Master of My Make Believe, Santigold wanted to explore new corners of her sound and different ways to convey her vision and political commentary. She worked with new collaborators Patrik Berger, Rostam Batmanglij, Hit Boy, Justin Raisen, ILOVEMAKONNEN, and Sam Dew and longtime cohorts John Hill, Dave Sitek, and Doc McKinney. The result is the bright and big sound of 99 that takes the genre-defying fearlessness Santigold has become known for to new places. See the tracklist here.

Beach Boys' Mike Love Releases New Christmas Song

(IS) Beach Boys star Mike Love has premiered his new holiday track "(You'll Never Be) Alone on Christmas Day," which he co-wrote with producer Michael Lloyd (Dirty Dancing).

We were sent the following details: The track, which hits radio this week, is released on Love's own Meleco Records and will be available on iTunes, Spotify, and other digital distributors starting November 6, 2015 - to kick off the holiday season.

"(You'll Never Be) Alone on Christmas Day" was originally written by Love with the help of classical pianist, Ron Altbach, in 1979 as part of a potential Beach Boys Christmas album. Love and Altbach are long time friends and occasional collaborators. The Beach Boys created a rough demo of Love's track, but never completed the song or officially released it.

Earlier this year, the band Phoenix approached Love for permission to cover the song for an upcoming Netflix original holiday special, A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS, set to debut on December 4th in all territories where Netflix is available. A Very Murray Christmas is an homage to the classic variety show featuring Bill Murray playing himself.

"This song has a wonderfully strange and beautiful history," said Love. "I'm grateful to the band Phoenix for digging it up and inspiring me to finish something I started 36 years ago. Michael Lloyd brought the track to life where it felt very contemporary and relevant. We've been friends since the recording of Good Vibrations, and I'm grateful we finally got around to collaborating. I hope fans find inspiration in the song during this special time of year."

Love reached out to his long-time friend, Michael Lloyd, to make an official recording of the song. "(You'll Never Be) Alone on Christmas Day" also features Bruce Johnston, Jeff Foskett, Scott Totten, Brian Eichenberger and John Cowsill as harmonizing vocalists. Love wrote new lyrics for the official release, and Lloyd created an entirely new arrangement for the song.

The single's artwork features an actual holiday photo from the Love family archives. A five-year-old Mike Love is listening to his great grandmother Alberta (Danny) Clardy read a Christmas story to Mike and his sister Maureen Love. Stream the song here.
