Day in Pop Report for 03/03/2015
"Preliminary information and evidence gathered on the scene indicates that an unidentified suspect fired several shots from inside the club striking the two victims," the police stated. "This is an ongoing, active investigation." The shooting happened near 7 p.m. at a nightclub called Label. The club was hosting the rappers for a party to celebrate the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament. Read more here.
Would the world have loved seeing Snoop Dogg as much? We will never know because, as Perry tells Elle magazine in their March cover story on the pop star, the NFL blocked his appearance. "And you wanna know why? Because of the Iggy Azalea thing," Perry said, referencing a series of jokes that turned into rants against the female rapper on his Instagram account. "Not that that was it-that was just the tipping point. You can't have that kind of hate at the Super Bowl. They already have enough female-hate problems; they don't need any more." Read more here.
Nugent's hot take isn't as controversial as some of his other stances, with the "Wango Tango" singer bluntly declaring he "doesn't get" Kanye West, nor most of rap for that matter. "I kind of shrug my shoulders and I'm sorry to say, I just don't get it," Nugent said to Ultimate Classic Rock. "I understand he's a super-talented guy. Nobody likes naked girls more than I do, but would you really want to have your wife completely naked in a magazine? It's a different world to me." Read what he had to say about rap here.

If there was any doubt as to how Rogen felt, a follow-up tweet summed it all up, saying "All jokes aside, Justin Bieber is a piece of s-t." But, Bieber doesn't seem to hold any hard feelings, as he is now trying to recruit Rogen for an upcoming roast of him, already hosted by Kevin Hart. Bieber tweeted, "@Sethrogen come on man. Check your voicemail. I took it like a man as u blasted a nervous kid fan of yours (me). Now I'm a man. Roast me!" Read his other tweets here.
But, to keep us satisfied until those new albums are ready, the two acts have teamed up for a new song from the upcoming Insurgent soundtrack, titled "Holes in the Sky." The song finds both Danielle Haim and Anthony Gonzalez taking lead for an electro-psych power ballad, like a modern recreation of classic Pink Floyd. Haim released a statement to MTV on the song, saying "We've been fans of Anthony Gonzalez and M83 for a long long time so when he reached out to have us sing on the song we were ecstatic. We had the best time in the studio with him, it all happened so fast and was so easy and natural. We are so excited to be a part of this movie." Check out M83 and Haim on "Holes in the Sky" here.
Migos took to Twitter to share the announcement, writing "#MIGOLINGO MIXTAPE DROPPING THIS WEEK Hosted By #YrnLingo @DjDurel #YRNTHELABEL" It's not entirely clear who Lingo is, or what his role in the mixtape will be-he seems to be related to Quality Control (Migos' label), but it's unclear whether he will be rapping on the mixtape or simply hosting it, along with fellow Quality Control affiliate DJ Durel. The album was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, HAIM, Florence & The Machine) and Marcus Mumford explains how it is different from their past work, "Towards the end of the Babel tour, we'd always play new songs during soundchecks, and none of them featured the banjo, or a kick-drum," says Mumford. "And demoing with Aaron meant that, when we took a break, we knew it wasn't going to involve acoustic instruments. We didn't say: 'No acoustic instruments.' But I think all of us had this desire to shake it up. The songwriting hasn't changed drastically; it was led more by a desire to not do the same thing again. Plus, we fell back in love with drums! It's as simple as that."
Mario and Gia talked to Cate Blanchett who plays the wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine in the film, Gia asked, "Why are you so mean to Cinderella?" Cate, "Well, because she's prettier than I am and some girls are like thatDon't be friends with those girls." Gia followed up with, "Do you really want to be a princess?" Cate's response, "I am a princess, sweetheart." She laughed, "And don't you forget it!" Gia quickly said, "Me too!" Cate, "You're a real princess. You're daddy's princess." Gia all dressed up in her best princess outfit also happily chatted with Lily James who plays Cinderella. Lilly asking her, "Do you like being a princess?" Gia, "Yes!" Lilly, "You are the best princess. Look at you!" Gia taking over the interview, "I like your dress. Did you make it?" Lilly played along, "I didn't make it. I wish I had. My mice were away so they couldn't help me." Gia then asked, "How did you forget your shoe?" Lilly, "It's so stupid, isn't it? Who would do that? I didn't forget them tonight. They're on!" Check out the video here.
Brit recently confessing her love for Charlie sporting the words, "I love Charlie" on her vest during her hit Las Vegas show "Piece of Me," telling Pauly D what his reaction was, "He said you're the sweetest girlfriend in the whole world, he was really happy I did that. Pauly also telling the singer that Charlie told "Extra" he was lucky to be with her when he was just at Universal Studios, Britney saying, "I'm very blessed to have him as a part of my life, that's very cool." So could wedding bells be in the couple's future? Pauly saying, "We are in Las Vegas so maybe we'll see you at the chapel one time with him, you never know?" Brit laughed, "You never know." Spears has been working on a new music with Iggy Azalea, revealing she really wanted to work with her, "I saw her song on TV and I was like a kid in a candy store, I was like I love Iggy, I love that video, I want to work with her and it was really weird because a week after that her manager was like she's a huge fan of yours, I was like let's do something together, so it worked out." Britney's not revealing much on what she and Iggy are putting together, she did however say you won't see her dancing with a snake again anytime soon like she did in her 2001 "I'm A Slave 4 U" performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, "I would never do thatI have no idea what I was thinking." Spears at the Zappos.com headquarters in Las Vegas for her partnership with the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation Brit explaining, "NCFF is an organization that goes to the largest extent to help families and children in time of their medical illness and it's powerful and I'm really proud to be a part of this organization." However, maybe Leto's fans should have kept their joy in check, as taking on the part has meant that Leto has chopped off his trademark long locks. Yes, the 30 Seconds to Mars singer now has short hair for the first time in a long time. Director David Ayer posted a series of photos commemorating the hair cut hear around the world. In the first shot, scissors are caught just before the climactic cut, asking "should we?" The question was obviously just a formality, as Leto's hair was bound to go either way. Still, Ayer gave fans an after shot as well, with Leto dramatically covering one eye. See the photos here.
Type the site into a web browser and loser.com takes the user straight to West's Wikipedia page. Wait, what? Yes, it's safe the humans behind loser.com are bigger fans of Beck than they are of Kanye West. That would be the most obvious reasoning behind the digital diss, given West pulling a dramatic stage-rush at this year's Grammy awards to protest Beck winning Album of the Year over Beyonc's favored self-titled release. Currently in the top 40 on the country airplay chart and rising, "Young and Crazy" is the third radio single from Ballard's 2014 album Sunshine & Whiskey. It comes on the heels of "Helluva Life" and the title track, both of which reached No. 1. Ballard debuted the video for "Young and Crazy" this past Saturday (Feb. 28) on CMT. If you've never seen Ballard live, the most performance-oriented video (directed by Glen Rose) gives a solid taste of the experience. The camera follows Ballard and his bandmates as they sweat it out on stage, while an audience of enthusiastic fans sings and shakes along. The energy is infectious. Watch the video and read more here.
The pressure is on to see if this new pop radio friendly track can connect the same way "Call Me Maybe" did three years ago, but her manager Scooter Braun believes it's just as good. "I told her that she couldn't come out with anything unless it was on the level of 'Call Me Maybe,'" he recently told Billboard. "And, now we have a new one that is on that level." Do you agree? Listen to the track here.
Natalie Dormer, best known to plebeians as Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones and playing the female iteration of the character in the song, also won't be tamed if you were thinking you could get it. Dormer plays a blonde vixen looking for a constant "someone new." In a grungy London club she sneaks into the bathroom with one guy. On the tube heading home she manages to make out with another man-or it is just her imagination? By the time she sees herself holding hands and drinking whiskey from a paper bag with a woman, it's clear she is only experiencing these encounters in her mind. Dormer, in reality, is a lonely girl and falling in love, every day just a little ole little bit, with someone new. Seems like a missed opportunity that her path never crosses with Hozier's, but their souls remain star-crossed and wanting the same thing: love. Watch the video here.
Apparently Ross ran into Murray at the Rhode Island vs. La Salle College basketball game over the weekend. According to Miss Info, Murray's son is the assistant coach for Rhode Island, while Ross is just a big fan. Somehow though, the two ended up in the studio together, along with Late Show bandleader Paul Shaffer and Mitch Glazer. So is Murray recording a song with Ricky Rozay? No word yet. Though, Murray certainly knew how to serve coffee to GZA and RZA, so it's not that farfetched. See the photos here.
