Day in Pop Report for 04/17/2015
"Hey guys, we had a crazy morning on the way to Dallas today," she wrote on Instagram with a photo of the burned bus. "Our bus tire caught on fire and we had to evacuate very quickly. EVERYONE IS SAFE AND SOUND. "It was me, my husband, our tour manager, and driver. Thanking God for our safety and the safety of all of those who helped put this fire out and keep us safe. Love you all!!!!" According to CBS DFW, Garland Fire's Meril Balancier said the bus stopped after noticing smoke on Interstate 30 near Dalrock. When everyone evacuated, the bus burst into flames. No one was injured in the incident. Read more here.
Inside a "source" claims Miley 'told Justin [Bieber] she thought she could be pregnant and he freaked out, telling her there was no way he could have a child. It would ruin their careers." Also, apparently when Selena Gomez, who was allegedly pregnant with Bieber's child in 2012, found out, 'She flipped out," the source said. 'She put all the blame on Miley, believing she seduced him just to get pregnant with his child." What sounds like a bad soap opera episode was hardly even given the time of day by Miley who laughed off the story on Instagram. See the post here.
"My father has it," as we hear the distinct and always creepy breathing sounds of Darth Vader, and we see what looks like his smashed helmet. We hear him, but never see him. Of course we know, it's Luke! "I have it. My sister has it. You have that power, too." But who is he talking to? Then we see some other tantalizing but quick scenes, some including Finn (played by John Boyega), who was prominently featured in the first trailer when it was released last year. Finally, we see a chase scene involving the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. Yep, the Millennium Falcon! And then other voice: "Chewie," he says. "We're home,"and then we get a brief glimpse of Han Solo and Chewbacca, who responds as he usually does, with a howl. Watch the trailer here.
Directed by Darren Craig, the clip features the singer among a montage of images from throughout US history - from the civil rights movement to the moon landing, JFK and contemporary visuals from today's headlines. Earlier this month, Rihanna premiered "American Oxygen" on streaming service Tidal and delivered its live debut at the Final Four of March Madness 2015 in Indianapolis on April 4. The tune follows "FourFiveSeconds" with Kanye West and Paul McCartney and "Bitch Better Have My Money" as the third song previewed from her next album. Watch the video here.
Mumford said the producer, who worked on 'Ye and Jay Z's Watch the Throne, is helping him learn to "chop up beats." "That's really fun for me," he told the mag. Though some may think this musical change comes out of nowhere, Mumford explains he's always had a love for hip-hop. And clearly respects the genre, since he recently told Billboard that Kanye was the "only rock star left." "I went to that Kanye gig in London recently, and I grew up listening to Jurassic 5 and Nas," Mumford told the mag. Read more here.
But in an interview Thursday with KROQ's Kevin & Bean, Diplo revealed the story behind the infamous photo with the Led Zeppelin frontman. "I was on tour with Robert Plant down in South America and we never did anything together, I just wrote that on my Instagram," he said. "It seemed like it was so insane that no one would take it seriously but now I'm actively going to look for him to do a collaboration. "The reason I even approached him backstage is because he beat me for the GRAMMY Record of the Year four years ago [note: Plant and Alison Krauss won for "Please Read the Letter" in 2009, beating out the Diplo-produced "Paper Planes") and I told him that was my only chance to get that award and you and Alison Krauss ruined it for me, but I still want to get a photo with you anyway." Bean remarked that for being such a young guy, it's "awesome" that Diplo has an appreciation for Plant. "He's so awesome and he has just such a good vibe," Diplo said. "He didn't really know who I was but he spent like a half hour talking to me about whatever, and I thought that was just so cool." Read more here.
The U.S. tour, currently only lasting a month, will hit big venues, ranging from PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania for the tour kickoff on July 2 to Fenway Park (home of the Red Sox) in Boston for the final show. The run doesn't stray far from the East Coast, drifting no more south than South Carolina and no further west than Indianapolis, so it would be surprising if additional dates aren't eventually added, especially as most of the announced shows are for smaller cities and not the typical tour stops. Check out the dates for James Taylor's new tour here.
This led her Barbz to wonder whether Minaj and her boyfriend Meek Mill just got engaged. Soon after, Minaj posted a photo of her and her boo posing together in matching blues and whites with the caption "Those Miami nights." According to Us Weekly, it was previously captioned: 'I wish every night could feel like last night." But look closely and you'll see Minaj is clearly showing off that new diamond ring of hers and what do you know, the ring happens to be on a very specific finger--the left ring ringer, usually saved for a wedding ring. Very curious. Finally, she gave fans a close up of the heart-shaped rock, not unlike what Lady Gaga did when she announced her engagement earlier this year. Read more here.
The tune is in association with the Avril Lavigne Foundation's support for Special Olympics; the charity provides support to children and youth living with serious illnesses or disabilities. All net proceeds from "Fly" will benefit the event as the 2015 Special Olympics World Games open in Los Angeles in July. "This song means a lot to me personally," says Lavigne. "It is inspired by the many young people I've met throughout my work with my Foundation. They pursue their dreams no matter what obstacles they face. "Special Olympics' mission is to unleash the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sports, so they're a natural fit for this song." Watch the video here.

Titled Something More Than Free, this will be Isbell's fifth solo album, following his award-winning 2013 collection Southeastern. "Everything was played initially with multiple musicians, pretty much the whole band, right off the bat," Isbell explained to Radio.com about the recording process on Something More Than Free. "It's good to have that conversation, because you can really capture some inspired moments." There isn't a 'theme' per se on the album, but as Isbell said that through his songwriting he is still "trying to explain relationships between people, and relationships with an individual and his or her past, and the sort of things you trade in to be happy the older you get--I think that's a big concern on this record. "There are a lot of instances of some sort of exchange. Exchanging freedom or exchanging something that you thought you had in the past in order to be a happier person in the future." Read more here.
The fest sticks with dance acts and hip-hop heavyweights, mixing Carnage, ODESZA and Zeds Dead with artists like Action Bronson, G-Eazy and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Bridging the gap between the two arenas will be Purity Ring, Thievery Corporation and BadBadNotGood with Ghostface Killah. And if you thought Summer Set was just a clever name, you're right, as the event is held at Somerset Amphitheater in Somerset, Wisconsin. Read more here.
"There were talks ages ago of me being an extra, which could have been cool. But every time they shoot it's the time I tour in the UK," Sheeran said. "But I've got that time off this year, so I'm going to hound them." We'll assume that reference to GoT's The Hound is incidental. Sheeran isn't the only English singer who's interested in getting their shot on Game of Thrones. Lily Allen, sister to Alfie Allen who played Theon Greyjoy, also used to harbor dreams of appearing as an extra on the Thrones set, going so far as the claim she declined a role on the show as the incestious princess Yara Greyjoy. That new spin comes courtesy of Meek Mill, who drops a verse in the remix right around the middle. This is a rare appearance from Meek since being released from prison, but the Philly rapper unquestionably makes his presence known. "I know some guys in my hood, they've never been on a flight," he raps. "I tell them to open their mind, they could be fly as a kite." Listen to the new remix here.
'When deciding on an album title, 'About to Get Real' just says it all for me," Corbin said in a press release. 'When country fans listen to this album, I want them to take away that even though the music mixes the modern with the classic, it's entirely real. Like the music of my heroes, it's the real deal." The album will total 11 songs, but a full tracklist has not been revealed. The accompanying video for "Baby Be My Love Song" finds Corbin and his band playing the Pinewood Social, a Nashville club, as one of its bartenders romances a woman who's dropped by after hours. The film, starring Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman has also cast Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and will be a springboard for DC's Justice League franchise. Like Marvel, DC is expected to create a cinematic universe where characters star in their own films, but also occasionally team up. Wednesday night, Dawn of Justice's director Zack Snyder tweeted that there will be "special teaser screening events," on April 20, and that there would be limited space, so RSVP-ing at the film's official website is probably a good idea. He also shared a teaser of the teaser, twenty seconds that includes ominous music and views of Batman and Superman's costumes. Watch the clip here.
