Meaghan Smith Debut Album Set For Release
PR reports: The Cricket's Orchestra, the full-length debut album from acclaimed Canadian musician Meaghan Smith, will be released October 6 on Sire Records.

This is the follow up to Smith's highly acclaimed 2008 EP The Cricket's Quartet, which The Washington Post declared as "one of the best finds of late '08." The full-length album will be available as a Barnes & Noble exclusive as well as through all digital retailers. In celebration of the release, Smith will perform a special show at Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe on October 5. Please see below for full tour details.

The 11-track album was written in Smith's home of Halifax, Nova Scotia and was recorded in Toronto with help from producer Les Cooper. The child of a piano-teacher mother and a bass-playing father, Smith devoured old musicals and animated films as a child and later fell in love with the jazz and big-band music of the '20s, '30s and '40s. Those early inspirations influenced the material featured on the album, as Smith says, "My music is modern vintage. The record incorporates a lot of instrumentation from older eras in the form of horns, strings and arrangements, but I also love DJs and their turntables." These modern influences are reflected on the record through the use of turntables, omnichords, melotrons and optigons. - more on this story

Jay Nash EP
PR reports: Following the success of his popular full-length album, 'The Things You Think You Need' (2008), LA-based singer-songwriter Jay Nash further illuminates his talents with the EP 'All the Stars in Copenhagen'. The five-track collection is yet another example of the Nash's ability to tell stories that are undeniably compelling while remaining convincingly real.

The somber-sweet and country tinged track "Everything" is just one sample of the alchemy that takes place when Nash pens a song, embraces a guitar, and resonates his unmistakable and bewitching vocals. He sings to an uncertain listener, "you're making up lies to justify your mood /explain it if you want to, but it knows better than you," and offers inspiration: "you have everything you need, just believe."

"Songwriting for me is a necessity," says Nash. "So is singing those songs. It's a conduit between the living and the dead, the loved and the lost, the cherished and despised. I think most people would agree that music is kind of strange magic." - more on this story

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
PR reports: When Ennio Morricone makes his Hollywood Bowl debut entitled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Sunday October 25, 2009 conducting the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the world-renowned composer will also debut a new piece he commissioned specifically to commemorate the event.

Andrea Morricone, son of Ennio Morricone has composed "Adesso For Strings", a six-minute piece that will be among many scores from the elder Morricone's performance at the Hollywood Bowl. This rare live event is the first live familial musical collaboration between the Morricones. Their professional career began in 1988 when both their music appeared in the classic film Cinema Paradiso. Andrea Morricone wrote "Love Theme" for Cinema Paradiso for which he won England's BAFTA award while Ennio Morricone scored the film.

"For anyone to have the opportunity to score a piece of music commissioned by Ennio Morricone is obviously an honor and unique pleasure," said Composer Andrea Morricone. "What makes this special for me is that my father has never conducted in Los Angeles, the home of American film, and it is truly an honor just being a part of this historic event. We first were able to collaborate together on the film Cinema Paradiso more than twenty years ago. It will be a thrill for both of us to hear my music conducted by my father for the very first time next month." - more on this story
