Beloved by fans for her sultry vocals and jazz-informed, piano-driven pop songwriting, Jones has taken a new direction on the as-yet-untitled album, seeing it as a chance to experiment with different sounds and an opportunity to work with a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and Modest Mouse among others. Jones also enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River's Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partner Jesse Harris. "I knew I wanted to try some different things on this album," Jones says. "I'd been playing with the same musicians for a long time. We're all still friendly and I hope we play together again, but it felt like a good time to work with new people and experiment with different sounds. As far as a producer, I wanted someone who could take me out of my comfort zone and find the right musicians to capture what I wanted to do with this collection of songs. I got in touch with Jacquire initially because he engineered one of my favorite records of all time, Tom Waits' Mule Variations. He was really eager to do it and we got along really well, which was important."

A journalist complained to police after an altercation with the bodyguard in Dubrovnik after he had reportedly followed the rapper and the singer through the streets as they enjoyed a holiday. BBC adds: Filmed footage of the altercation shows the pair, who were there on holiday, walking through the narrow streets of the town and a bodyguard arguing with an assembled group of paparazzi before the couple board a speedboat. Cameraman Dragan Banovic, 57, is warned not to film the couple by the bodyguard before a piece of Banovic's equipment is thrown into the sea.

"Party In The USA," which also features production by the critically acclaimed producer Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald (Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry), leaked via the Internet at the end of July. The song made its proper debut with a highly publicized performance by Miley Cyrus at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. Less than a week later, it was announced that the song was the 2nd most added at radio this year.
Of all the wondrous things Dolly Parton has accumulated during her spectacular life in show businessseven Grammy awards, two Oscar nominations, a Tony nomination and her 1999 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, to name just a handfulthe one thing missing from her eye-opening resum was a career-spanning, multiple-label box set that featured music from her earliest days as a recording artist, through her chart-topping days with RCA, up to her current status as a bona fide national treasure. With the October 27 release of RCA/Legacy's Dolly, that situation has now been rectified. And how! From her first national hit in 1967, the ironically titled "Dumb Blonde" (nobody with a lick of sense ever accused Dolly of that!) and the legendary '70s duets with Porter Wagoner, from her first number one single ("Joshua") in 1970 to her 26th number one in 1991 ("Rockin' Years," a duet with Ricky Shelton) and all train stops in between, Dolly has it all. "To Know Him Is To Love Him" from the fertile three-way collaboration with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, the amazing crossover pop smashes, including the heartfelt duet with Kenny Rogers "Islands In The Stream," as well as revered juke box staples "9 To 5" and "Here You Come Again," this 101 track/4 CD treasure trove covers all the bases. You may never have to leave home again, but if you do, be sure to take Dolly along for the ride.

With comparisons ranging from Lenny Kravitz, Res, Prince, Pete Yorn, and Ben Harper, it's readily apparent that Chris Marsol's music genuinely mixes and matches styles. As a proponent of blending and bending genres and bowling down musical stereotypes, the talent is something that comes natural for Chris, and that talent is on full display in the manner in which Marsol crafted his latest release. Chris says, "Honestly I wrote over 200 songs without ever planning an 'album release'," he says, "I would dream some of these songs and wake up in the middle of the night, grab my guitar or piano and start writing. After about 200 songs I had to record them, not to make an album but to get them out of my head so I would not go insane... literally." This organic approach defines Chris's style and explains the eclectic mix of music found throughout Butterflies, Lipstick, and Hand Grenades. The new album also marks a new era for Chris, who believes he has finally found his niche, "I think you're getting a real glimpse into a time in my life. Live drums, more confident vocals, and a more simplistic and definitive approach." After countless hours and countless songs, that new approach will be on display October 20th with the release of his new album.

This one was just named Pete Tong's Essential New Tune and one to do some serious damage in the coming months. You can check out these three D. Ramirez productions along with some other fine tunes in the "August 2009 Mix" we are providing you on the house! While in the USA Dean's gone all "roving reporter" on us and created a tour diary to share his fondest memories of the tour. Rather than only document his gigs, Dean has provided a much broader look at what life is like in the USA and Canada for a visiting UK DJ. Albeit, most will not get the opportunity to stay at Adam Freeland's LA-area house during the week, but there are a lot of tips for the long distance traveler. For example, the silver one touches on tips on "other side of the street" driving, walking in LA, Houston's summertime furnace, a Nanimal in NYC and manning an airplane's emergency exit while sauced with a hardcore hangover. Keep in mind that Chicago, Montreal and Toronto are still to come!
