Eminem Radio
Soul Shine reports: "Once upon a time
not too long ago, the Feds wanted all my music off the air," said hip-hop
artist Eminem. But the artist has found an answer to that dilemma. Eminem
who gets his name from his initials M.M. and his record label will
be launching a radio station on the satellite network Sirius. Since Sirius
stations are not bound by the same rules as the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) controlled ground stations, there are no restrictions
on content. Eminem and Shady Records plan on taking advantage of this.
"I can't wait to start dropping new material, exclusive tracks, and uncensored
hip-hop featuring me and everyone else, freely saying whatever the hell
we want," said Eminem.
The as yet named station hits to air in the fall. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Metal Guitarist Stabbed 6
Times in Fight
Blabbermouth reports: Finnish "pagan battle
metal" act TURISAS have released more details about the incident that left
the group's guitarist, Georg Laakso, stabbed six times in the back times
in the group's hometown of Hämeenlinna, Finland over the weekend.
The guitarist has since been released from the hospital and his condition
is said to be "OK."
"The incident took place outside a fast-food restaurant in the centre of Hämeenlinna where Georg, Mathias plus a few friends stopped for something to eat," reads a posting on the band's web site. "Georg got into a fight with a guy in front of the restaurant, and was stabbed in the back in a very gross and despicable manner by a third outside person while fighting the other guy. At that point no-one, including Georg himself, noticed that any stabbing had taken place it wasn't before half an hour later, when Georg had gone down to the police station to clear things out, he started to feel his t-shirt getting sticky and noticed the wounds in his back. He was immediately transported to the hospital where he was given medical treatment and was kept under observation until today afternoon. Luckily, none of the six stab wounds did any injury to internal organs even if the deepest one was 10 cm deep." [see full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Lars Laments Napster Battle
Blabbermouth reports: While promoting
METALLICA's documentary, "Some Kind of Monster", in New York City last
week, the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich, was asked if whether he had any
regrets about how he handled the whole Napster issue in 2001 and being
the target of the subsequent backlash.
"I wish that I was more you know, I felt kind of ambushed by the whole thing because I didn't really know enough about what we were getting ourselves into when we jumped," he said, according to Launch Radio Networks. "We didn't know enough about the kind of grassroots thing, and what had been going on the last couple of months in the country as this whole new phenomenon was going on. We were just so stuck in our controlling ways of wanting to control everything that had to do with METALLICA. So we were caught off guard and we had a little bit of a rougher landing on that one than on other times than when we just blindly leap. But you know, I'm still proud of the fact that we did leap and I took a lot of hits and it was difficult." [more]- Click Here for the Full Story
Lost Joey Ramone CD Dispute
Blabbermouth reports: The New York Post's
"Page Six" is reporting that Joey Ramone's estate is battling his former
producer over the punk rock legend's "lost album." Page Six has learned
that the RAMONES singer recorded demos of 16 songs with the help of producer
Daniel Rey before his death in 2001. Now Joey's brother, Mickey Leigh,
claims that the tapes are being "held hostage" by Rey, who wants $100,000
for them. "We've been trying to get Daniel to hand them back since Joey
died," he says. "They don't belong to him." But Rey, who recorded and played
all the instruments on the demos, says he only wants "some sort of settlement.
It has nothing to do with money . . . I'm just concerned with protecting
Joey's musical legacy." The producer adds: "These should be released as
an album of demos. This is stuff that me and Joey did together." Leigh
says the family would like to play the demos for Joey's former A&R
guy, Kevin Patrick, and possibly re-record the music backing Joey's vocals.

Stars Pay Tribute To Parsons
Chart Attack reports: Parsonsmania came
to a head with a two tribute concert in California this past weekend organized
by Gram's daughter Polly. Old friends like Keith Richards and newer disciples
such as Steve Earle, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Norah Jones and Jay
Farrar performed some of Parsons' songs (which are relatively few, considering
how many covers he favoured) to thousands of fans who never got to see
the real thing. A similar tribute package has been put together for Canadian
audiences by the Cisco Toronto and Ottawa Bluesfests for July 17 and 18
respectively. [see full story for more]- Click

AC/Krokus/DC?
Electric Basement reports: KROKUS frontman
MARC STORACE recently talked with ClassicRockRevisited.com about AC/DC,
"When the question came through the grapevine after Bon [Scott's] death
to join AC/DC I didn't know whether to believe it or not but I turned it
down outright anyway. I didn't want to look temptation in the eye. Besides,
I wasn't even tempted because I believed Krokus was going to continue to
get bigger. AC/DC is the biggest band in the whole wide world now but back
then I was that naive. I was cocky and naïve. I believed in what I
was doing and I didn't like the AC/DC comparisons. We are not a 100% rip
off."- Click

Durst Kills Wes Rumor
Day in Rock reports: This is a follow
up to a story that ran yesterday in which a posting to the Limp Bizkit
message boards reportedly made by Durst stated that Wes had returned to
the band and they had changed their name to Limp. As we pointed out in
that story, it didn't appear to be legitimate as Durst typically will post
updates on the Limp Bizkit news page and also the message was not written
in Durst style (capitalization). Apparently, Durst agrees. He set the record
straight with an update to the Limp Bizkit site that went up the morning
after our report ran. "hello people. this is a little bit of information
for you. don't believe everything you read or hear and don't think that
i would ever post anything on the site besides in the news or admin areas.
stay tuned for chaos. one more thing, don't go to sleep. yours truly, fred"

antiMUSIC reports: A British man that
was visiting Australia to attend a wedding may have discovered some lost
Beatles tapes and a wealth of Beatles memorabilia in a suitcase he purchased

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the tapes also include one previously unreleased song titled "I'm In Love".

Tulsa Declares J.J. Cale
Day
press release reports: On the heels of
his acclaimed new album To Tulsa And Back, J.J. Cale has just wrapped a
rare tour of the United States (only his second tour since 1996) that played
to sold out crowds across the country. In the course of the tour, Cale
was accompanied by Eric Clapton, commemorated by his hometown of Tulsa,
and began filming of a forthcoming documentary, details of which will be
announced shortly.
One of Cale's inspirations for hitting the road in the first place was an invitation from Eric Clapton to participate in his Crossroads Festival in Dallas. That led to warmup dates on the West Coast which then headed east to Dallas. Clapton joined Cale for his entire set in Dallas which included such Cale originals as "Cocaine," "After Midnight" and "Travelin Light," all of which reached a wider audience via Clapton's versions of the songs. Clapton recently told Vanity Fair that J.J. Cale was the one living person he most admired.
Cale's return to Tulsa's historic Cain's
Ballroom for only his second performance in the city in the past two decades,
in addition to the civic pride inspired by the title of the new CD, prompted
Mayor Bill LaFortune to proclaim July 5 as "J.J. Cale Day" in Tulsa. -
