Aaron Gillespie of Underoath just released a new album called "Fear Caller" from his other project The Almost and to celebrate we asked Aaron to tell us about the song "Chokehold". Here is the story:
I had recently moved out of my studio, and my recording partner and I had gone our separate ways. Having to vacate fast and [go] somewhere close, I found this awful, like 10x12 closet-type space in a shared music studio. I moved my stuff in and left for tour.
A month or two passed, and I came home from tour with this crazy creative fire burning in my stomach. I just had to make music. I drove to this new 'space' and opened the door and it was infected and infested with these strange, small moths. All of my gear was covered [in them]. They were in the drums and literally inside guitars and mics.
I moved my gear again into a new studio the following week and 'Chokehold' was the first song I wrote in the new space. It felt like out of all the madness, I was thriving and becoming someone else. Things aren't always glamorous and in that I thrive and find solace.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself right here!
