Up and coming rocker Erin Coburn is releasing her new album "Out From Under" this week (November 8th) and to celebrate we asked her to tell us the story behind the title song. Here is the story:
Before I wrote "Out from Under", I was pretty addicted to my phone... which soon made me realize how many "rules" and "restrictions" society had placed on itself. I had fallen victim to these rules several times and it was really starting to frustrate me with how put in a box I felt. I remember one time in particular someone had told me straight to my face "you can't be a musician in this world, that isn't a real job"... and it just kept making me ask the question "why not?". I was fed up with trying to be like others and ready to create an invite to myself to come to this party where I could do or be whatever I wanted. I knew I wasn't the only one who felt like they had been put inside a box, so I created that invite for anyone who wanted to be themselves without worrying about judgement. Society has a way of holding up different ideas to "the norm" and casting them aside. I wanted to set free all of these new ideas or different ways of living and let them Out from Under the box. I included large, powerful choruses with ear-hugging harmonies and then ended the song with a completely improvised guitar solo - a very freeing element in many rock songs.
