Today Brett Newski tells us about the song "We are all f***ed" from his brand new album "American Folk Armageddon," which was released late last month. Here is the story:"We are all F***ed" is a song about the Internet taking over our lives. I feel things are moving too fast in the world, faster than what we were built to handle as humans.
With the 3G, 4G, 5G Smartphone turbo speed in out pockets at all times, it leads to vast amounts of hyper-stimulation, whether we realize it or not. For me, this technology is a major catalyst for my anxiety and unnecessary feelings of urgency. These devices are so common, that only when I step back and go 3-4 days without the Web do I realize the intensity of their impact. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for watching Youtube videos of "dolphins with boners" or whatever all while texting 10 friends and listening to Euro Power Trance, but is it healthy? There's no Zen anymore. And if there is, I can't find it.
Being on tour in South Africa last September, I went five whole days without any Internet (SA has some of the worst internet in the world). This was the first time I'd achieved this since being 14. At first it was frustrating, but over time I became less anxious, happier and more in focus with the people around me. Living in human-person form is something I'd forgotten how to do.
While modern technology is wonderful and I must admit I love it, I want to realize it's power on the subconscious level and how important it is to get away from the smartphone even if just for a day. There's no substitute for face-to-face time. Yes, people are sh*tty as a whole human populous; we consume, destroy and kill each other. But as individuals people are the greatest thing to happen. I don't want to miss out on them.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the live acoustic version here and learn more about the album right here!
