Vince Grant - My Depression Is Always Trying To Kill Me

.
It's rare you find a collection of music with such an honest title. Sure, The Smiths, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake and so many others sang (or still sing) about the same things, yet Vince Grant comes right out and says it: My Depression is Always Trying to Kill Me.

The project begins with the appropriately title "Melancholia." However, what saves this intentionally depressing music is Grant's voice. He sounds a little like REM's Michael Stipe during "Melancholia," and then a little like Glen Phillips (of Toad The Wet Sprocket) during "Oceans II."

It might throw you off a little bit to hear Grant singing so bluntly. However, such straightforwardness can also be refreshing. Why beat around the bush? Why try to be so poetic, when everybody already knows what you're trying to say? And besides, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Let's pray that by getting these fears out of his system, Vince Grant gains the necessary strength to make it through.
