Feisty Piranhas' Live in Lasers
by Kevin Wierzbicki
.
While not exactly a household name around the country, Feisty Piranhas were very big on the rock/punk scene in SoCal and they enjoyed a long run until the death of front man Peter Alexander "Feisty" Lust III in early 2014. In celebration of the group's body of work and to honor Lust, the Feisty Piranhas camp has released three posthumous titles; this DVD, a second DVD called The Piranha Experience and an album titled Evil Monkey. As per the title, Live in Lasers is a live effort that begins with the band ripping through the Social Distortion-like "Living Blind" before moving on to highlights that include the heavy rock of "Trains" and a cool take on "24 Hours" with guest rapper Lil' Cuddy Souel. Lust's dad played drums for the group and while this might be an embarrassing situation for some young rockers, Feisty introduces "Pops" by saying, "I'm actually proud to say that's my dad on drums." Pops then plays a drum solo and then a piece of Feisty's poetry is read; ironically the words are an homage to Lust's friend who died in a car crash. The band proves quite versatile as "Where is the World" is quiet while "A Better Day" is poppy and closer "The War Sucks" is appropriately rowdy. A lot of behind-the-scenes material is included as a bonus.
