Ari B tells us about her single "Dance into the Party". The music video was directed by Wayne Isham (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bon Jovi) and choreographed by Chuck Maldonado (Stomp the Yard, Step Up 4). Here is the story:
The melody for "Dance into the Party" came to me early on. Initially, my concept for the lyrics was going to be much more colorful and imaginative. However, this changed when I had a reaction to a couple of situations that happened to come back-to-back. The first one was when I was in a dance class with two old friends who had just come back from their first year of conservatory training. I was really happy to see them, reunite with my old company dancers. However, before class started, they were making fun of they way I speak and dress. I have always had a certain style and vibe, and they certainly saw it develop over the years. During that afternoon in class, they observed that a year in intense training didn't necessarily make them better than I am. I put so much soul of into my dance (and everything I do) that, although they might be technically stronger, their presentation isn't. After class, they wouldn't talk to me at all. I have since been in touch with them. I never hold grudges, but it was one of the inspirations for this song's lyrics. The other situation that inspired the lyrics happened in school. This guy, who had been a friend, was being so rude to me. He was acting as if he hated me, but, at the same time, he was following my every move on social media, reading all my snap stories and asking all my friends about me.
This song is about letting go of people's views, and owning every situation in life that we find ourselves in - we should always dance into the party.
This was a last minute decision regarding the lyrics, but I'm happy that the words went in that direction. It is an educational message, but also cool and relatable to many. That's what I wanted to come out with.
