Brad Byrd has released his new album "Highest Mountain" and to celebrate we asked him to tell us the story behind the effort's latest single "1000 Pink Balloons". Here is the story:
My latest single is called "1000 Pink Balloons" and it was written over a period of a few years. The verse and chorus' came easily bit the bridge took a little while to find its way. The song has a few different meanings emotionally for me. It really taps into lost opportunities or squandered talent most for me. I'd like to think it has a lot to do with the years I spent touring and performing to small amounts of people an feeling like I gave some great performances that most people never saw. Almost like all the work you do as a touring indie artist feels like your just standing still sometimes. It also touches on feeling powerless over the world and it's governing forces and ultimately how relationships often fade away.
I performed the song many times live and it always got a good response which encouraged me to record it for this album. Emotionally I also feel like it conveys how in life you have relationships that are solid but then seem to fade away mysteriously, I guess that's just life but it's always irked and intrigued me. We all are flawed and simply human and its hard for us to maintain and build healthy relationships. I guess it's just life really that some of the good ones slip away.
In this latest video for the single the director Pat Fogarty really got more of a break up feel and I totally get that, however it's just one element of what it's about. It's more about being powerless with re to the world, nature, relationships, survival, and feeling like you want everyone to see you but ultimately you feel invisible in today's world - you know the deepest sh*t you can think of, haha. If it was simply about just a "break up" then I think the overall message would be a bit lost but the concept for the video was quirky and cool and fun and works because in the end I guess we are powerless, we do fade away, moments of greatness are lost to the wind, and ultimately we break up. But that's just life ya know? Okay you can cry now:)
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself here and learn more about the album right here!
