U2's The Edge Receives Les Paul Award

(Gibson) Music magazine Q held its annual awards show last week (November 2) at London's legendary Roundhouse venue, and the 2016 Q Gibson Les Paul Award went to The Edge from U2. The previous recipients of the award were Johnny Marr (2014) and Tony Iommi (2015).

The Edge received his award from Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood, quipping "I'm no Jeff Beck!" (Wood, of course, was bassist in the Jeff Beck Group back in the '60s.)

In the audience, Blondie's Deborah Harry applauded as Edge further called for guitars to replace synths "like it's 1981!" U2 also won Best Live Act - recent shows were the first the band have played "indoors" for years. Read more here.
