Multi-genre singer/songwriter D. FRANCISCO recently released his debut single "I Want Ya" and to celebrate we asked him to tell us a little bit about the track. Here is the story:
Last year found me in the recording studio many a day throughout the weeks and months. One beautiful spring afternoon, during the first stages of the album's initial development, I was in the Spin Move Studios when Hero & Jason approached me with idea for our second song collaboration. I instantly liked it as it incorporated the Latin flavor I was seeking as well as the Dance & EDM elements I also love.
Hero asked me what I felt it was about, & I instantly knew it was about being at a club or lounge, and spotting this sultry, mysterious woman who totally captivates me, and the euphoria such an attraction always creates. I remember saying, "You guys are going to think I'm crazy, but I definitely hear the word 'Krasavitsa', which is Russian for 'beautiful' and/or 'sweetheart', as part of the chorus!"
Luckily, crazy is good in Hero's book, so we decided to make the chorus mainly be the various pet names for this foxy lady in a few different languages:
(CHORUS)
Krasavitza
Bella
Divina
I want ya
Preziosa
Hermosa
I see ya/I want ya
Mi gusta
{ repeat }
Incidentally, I'd originally learned the word "Krasavitsa" for a recital in which I was singing a few Rachmaninoff pieces. As I needed to pronounce the Russian the same exact way a native speaker would, I'd enlisted the help of some friends of mine for whom it's their mother tongue. One of them stressed what a beautiful word it was, and how Russian women love to be called this. Well, this has been extremely valuable advice over the years!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the official video here and learn more right here!
