(Radio.com) The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that the painkiller Percocet was present in Prince's body when he was found dead April 21, citing a source familiar with the investigation.
The source stressed it still unclear whether the drug caused or contributed to death. On Wednesday, Radio.com reported the artist was set to begin a confidential emergency addiction treatment program. Prince's representatives contacted Dr. Howard Kornfield, a California doctor specializing in opioid addiction, in the hopes of helping the musician.
That same day the US Attorney's Office and the DEA joined the investigation, pledging to provide federal resources and expertise about prescription drug diversion.
The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office subsequently released a statement, clarifying that they have released no new information on the case and results are still pending. See their official statement here.
