(hennemusic) Part one of a new four-part Spotify series, "Landmark - Metallica: The Early Years", is now available to watch online. "Chapter One: Metal Milita" details the formation of Metallica by drummer Lars Ulrich following a move from Europe to California in 1980.
Frustrated that the Los Angeles club scene wasn't as heavy as things overseas, Ulrich heads to England and gets re-inspired after hanging out with Motorhead in London.
The drummer returns Stateside, builds connections within the industry and secures enough interest from Metal Blade Records to form a band to record "Hit The Lights" for inclusion on the label's compilation "Metal Massacre."
Demo tapes followed, as did a move to San Francisco as part of a deal to add bassist Cliff Burton to the lineup. Following "Metal Militia", "Landmark - Metallica: The Early Years" continues with additional chapters including "Metal Up Your Ass", "Sophistication And Brutality" and "Armageddon's Here."
