Holding Absence have released their first new music of 2023 in the form of captivating new single "A Crooked Melody." Accompanied by a beautifully stylized video that was directed by Lewis Cater, "A Crooked Melody" is an exceptional example of Holding Absence's keen ability to craft insatiably catchy songs that serve as a vessel for poignantly relatable lyrics.

"'A Crooked Melody' is simply a song about denial," comments frontman Lucas Woodland. "It's the lie we tell ourselves every night to help us sleep, but deep down, we know the truth. The big difference between a crooked melody and a lie, however, is that it's sweet, enchanting, and easier to swallow." (continue)

Daughtry have released a music video for their cover of the classic Journey hit "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", that features guest vocalist from Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale.

Chris Daughtry shared, "This was an unexpected video in a lot of ways. I don't think either of us, Lzzy or myself, were actually 'dressed' for a video shoot. We were basically just trying to get some b-roll to capture the studio experience of recording this track. But when we got the footage back, it was like, 'Well... This looks way cooler than I expected, so... I guess we have a music video now?' Haha. It was the most low-key, low-pressure video I've ever done." (continue)

They have also unveiled the title-track single (featuring Fozzy guitarist Billy Grey) with a brilliantly entertaining music video, as fans have come to expect from this fun quintet.

Killer V comments on the single: "'Fools Tomorrow' is about recognizing one's shortcomings. We've all been our own worst enemies at some point in our lives. There's power in acknowledging that sometimes we are the problem. Taking responsibility for your actions and owning up to your faults is better than placing the blame on others. (hennemusic) Metallica has released a series of lyric videos for their new single, "72 Seasons", in multiple languages. The title track from the group's forthcoming album can be viewed with lyrics displayed in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

"72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves," says James Hetfield about the album title. "The concept that we were told 'who we are' by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is re-enactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry." (continue)

On the full moon, Thursday 6 April, Peter Gabriel releases the Bright-Side Mix of the title track from his forthcoming album, i/o. Written and produced by Peter Gabriel, i/o was primarily recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire and The Beehive in London. The song features Soweto Gospel Choir, who were recorded at High Seas Studios in South Africa.

This month the song is i/o and i/o means input / output. You see it on the back of a lot of electrical equipment and it just triggered some ideas about the stuff we put in and pull out of ourselves, in physical and non-physical ways. That was the starting point of this idea and then trying to talk about the interconnectedness of everything. The older I get, I probably don't get any smarter, but I have learned a few things and it makes a lot of sense to me that we are not these independent islands that we like to think we are, that we are part of a whole. If we can see ourselves as better connected, still messed up individuals, but as part of a whole, then maybe there's something to learn? (continue)

Eric Sommer and the Fabulous Piedmonts are currently on the road and to celebrate we asked Eric to tell us about the song "Red Dress" from his "Brooklyn Bolero" album. Here is the story:

I was sitting in the kitchen one afternoon and staring at the wall: I needed another good stage song for the set that was up-tempo, had a catchy groove and was easy to understand yet could be read many ways - as many as each listener could see it in any context their hearts desired: it needed to be flexible, elastic and super catchy.
