If you thought Soul Embraced's last album "for the Incomplete" was heavy wait until you wrap your ears around "This Is My Blood". The band kicked things up a notch with more guitars, growls and screams. Soul Embraced started as a side project for Living Sacrifice's Lance Garvin and Rocky Gray where they could return to their "death metal" roots. It now appears to have become a fulltime gig for Lance and Rocky. While some will miss the experimental elements that made up Living Sacrifice's "The Hammering Process" and "Nonexistence" this is a whole new band with a more stick to the core death metal sound. Lance's drums are just insane pounding mercilessly throughout every track and Rocky's guitar chops have never sounded thicker and when he breaks out and shreds a solo it just kicks things into a ferocious ball of metal. Vocalist Chad Moore can growl with the best of them but it's the melodic offsetting vocals that are interspersed throughout the album that gives the songs their melodic underpinning while not sacrificing the group's death metal credibility. Plain and simple this album flat out kicks ass!
