Rialto's third release "Right on Earth" is the latest UK pop export to hit American shores. What you get is a collection of synth-pop tunes in the vain of Vast, Psychedelic Furs with a bit of the Smiths, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. While this style of music isn't as prevalent in this day and age as it was during the 80's when it was a keystone of the alternative music scene, it nonetheless shows why this style of music was so vital to the 80's sound and sold millions of records. If anything Rialto does an admirable job resurrecting the genre and offer up an album that can stand head to head with any release from the previously mentioned artists. "London Crawling" starts things off giving us our first taste of the Rialto's rich melodies and vocal hooks.
Standout tracks include the beautiful ballad "Catherine's Wheel" and melodic mid tempo "Anyone Out There?" either song could have been a major hit in the 80's. They don't really venture too far from that basic formula making this album very consistent but all the songs are strong and have their own distinct personality. If you are a fan of the classic alternative synth-pop then Rialto is highly recommended.
