The vocals, guitars and drums are immediately familiar but who is this new band?  Low and behold, Exene Cervenka the queen of soulful punk is back with yet another solo project-This time entitled "Original Sinners".  This CD has it all!  The guitars are reminiscent of such a good and pure old sound that hasn't been heard in the mainstream in over a decade.
From the first drum beat on Birds & Bees, something familiar will tear at your heart.  The alternative-country sounds that popularized X is very apparent throughout.  Especially on Whiskey for Supper where Exene and guitarist/vocalist Jason Edge croon like they've been doin' it all along.  The female vocals on this particular tune create a surprisingly interesting combo.
The "ballad" on this CD comes early, but the hypnotic, whining guitar riffs will take you somewhere that you literally feel you can smell the candles burning and hear the vinyl crackle as the rain pours down.  You'll find a lot of old sounds mixed in with the energetic, new beats.  Enough can't be said about the fun guitar licks and surf-punk style drumming throughout the CD.  The country-fried funky instrumentation carries you through every heel-kicking song, especially Who's Laughin' Now.

You'll get your fill of bluesy twang and still find plenty of pop appeal that might see a song or two to the airwaves.  Buy it, You'll like it.
