12 Stones is the latest band to emerge from the mighty indie label, Wind-Up Records. Wind-up is a label that can't seem to do any wrong when it comes to spotting potential chart topping artist. 12 Stones is no exception. While they are not the most original band on the scene, they are more than adapt at what they do. These small town Louisiana boys are firmly plugged into what it takes to make a splash on active rock and modern rock radio. The closest comparison that can be drawn is to Nickelback, yet 12 Stones fall more in line with Nickelback's US debut album "The State" rather than their latest more melodic offering. There is also a bit of Creed and Three Doors Down here as well.

The songs are well written and executed with conviction. All the songs seem crafted with radio in mind and in fact they have a lot of hit potential. The biggest thing that separates 12 Stones from the other bands in the crowded modern rock arena is they are not shy about using their guitars to full effect, you actually hear some lead guitars here which is a nice change of pace. Plus, the overall themes of the songs are more positive than what we have come to expect from modern rock and alternative bands over the past few years. Don't expect a bunch of "poor me" tunes, you won't find that kind of attitude here. While the band says they are not a "religious band" per se, they do explore a lot of themes that touch upon morality and religious themes, that and the fact that their name comes straight out of the Bible might turn some people off, but they aren't in your face with their beliefs, they just layout some of their thoughts for the listener to ponder, in much the same way Collective Soul did with their debut album.

The bottom line, 12 Stones have what it takes to become a dominant force in modern rock. If you are a fan of groups like Nickelback, Creed, 3 Doors Down or even the mellower moments of Staind, then you will find a lot to love here.
