You have to give VH1 credit for selecting worthy artists for their Behind the Music Collection. This time around these selected on of the greatest American musical story tellers, Harry Chapin. In the 70's Chapin captivated listeners with his bittersweet story songs like Taxi, W*O*L*D* and the monster hit "Cat's In The Cradle."
Before Harry's tragic death in an auto accident in 1981 he recorded a wealth of songs that covered all the emotional bases. We found his humor in "30,000 Pounds Of Bananas", we witnessed his sadness with "If My Mary Were Here". We learned of his regrets with "Taxi", "Cat's In The Cradle" and "W*O*L*D*" as well as his optimistic spirit with "Circle" and "Better Place to Be". Harry may not be as well known as other singer/songwriters his legacy of songs are truly remarkable and have earned him legend status among those who know and love his music.
While "Greatest Stories Live" is the must
have live compilation for any Harry Chapin fans, this new collection provides
the listener with studio versions of many of the same songs. A highly
recommended release for a legendary artist.
