I saw the name of this band and had a small chuckle, as one of the first bands I ever played with was called "Sons of Sam" or S.O.S. for short. Musically Son of Sam and my high school era cover band are worlds apart as my group used to indulge in classic rock and blues numbers of the likes of Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, AC/DC, Stevie Ray and the Black Crowes and Sons of Sam are a powerhouse mix of goth, punk, hardcore and metal.
Son of Sam is to Hard-Core and Punk what
Cream was the Acid rock in the late 60's, a Supergroup comprised of members
who had already made a name for themselves in other bands. Son of Sam is
comprised of guitarist Todd Youth (Danzig, D-Generation, Murphy's Law,
Agnostic Front, Warzone, Samhain etc.), vocalist Davey Havok (AFI), drummer
London May (Samhain, Tiger Army, Dag Nasty), and bassist Steve Zing (Samhain,
Chyna). Put this amount of talent together in one room and you get a lot
more than you bargained for as evidenced by Son of Sam's debut album "Songs
from the Earth" which hit stores back in April. Like I said the music is
a mix of goth, punk, hardcore and metal with all the power and aggressive
intensity you might expect. With this album Son of Sam give the hard-core/punk
scene a real kick in the ass with ten high powered, expertly executed modern
classics. It's guaranteed to kick your ass and leave you begging for more.
