I'll admit I was ready to write these guys off as yet another "rap-rock" group after the first 15 seconds of this CD when the vocals kicked in. The problem with reviews in general is all you really get is the opinion of one person, prejudices and all. And I make no secret of my loathing for rap and rapcore. Fortunately, Gladyss Patches isn't a one trick pony, sure there is an overabundance of RATM style rapping here but there is enough actual great signing to offset the rapping. The leadoff track, "Vanished" is pretty much straight forward "rap-core" but starting with the second track "Headlights" the band really starts to distinguish itself with some great modern rock and numetal songs. Renz is really an amazing vocalist it's a shame that he squanders that talent at points with resorting to rapping, but then again the name of the game is to sell records and that stuff is popular at the moment, but I can't help wondering how much better these songs would sound if Renz just sang them straight.

In many ways Gladyss Patches is similar to Linkin Park in their mix of nu-metal and rapcore. When you take the rap out of the mix they enter the territory dominated by Finger Eleven. But in some ways they blow past both of those groups with some amazing harmonies and overblown guitars and at some points traipsing on the edges of progressive rock.

If you are a fan of rapcore you should love these guys as they add a lot to the genre. Even if rap-core isn't your thing, these guys have enough to offer in other areas; so don't write them off automatically, you might be pleasantly surprised.
