For starters, Billy Corgan is a pompous ass. But damn he can write some great music. This Limited Edition (most copies of this release will be without the second disc) release is a testament to that. Sure, at times he was fighting with his bandmates and sure sometimes he was going in and totally re-recording some of the parts they had already laid down (ask James Iha about the "Siamese Dream" album), but still, Billy and Co. just plain rocked out.
The best part about this disc is that the
actual 'Greatest Hits' part of it flows in chronological order; starting
with "Gish" and going all the way up to their last album "Machina-The Machines
Of God". My only gripe with the thing is that in all of these un-released
tracks they somehow couldn't manage to find the time to put the acoustic
version of 'Mayonaise' on the album. Oh well, a small price to pay for
such a good album. A definite MUST for anyone who even remotely likes the
Smashing Pumpkins.
