"Morning View" is the fifth offering from Incubus and as such shows the band progressing nicely. While not as raw as their first couple of releases "Morning View" proves that Incubus knows how to rock. And it is rock that is the focus here not the current traipsing of rap-metal. Sure they are as guilty as any modern hard rock band of venturing onto the dark side with rapping and down tuned guitars but on Morning View they for the most part forgo that tried and true formula and instead concentrate on melody, yes you get some hard rocking heavy songs but Incubus doesn't lock themselves into any predetermined mold either. They offer up some nu-metal cuts as well as modern rockers, even funky rockers and power-pop. The only real complaint is with the overuse of "scratching" on a couple of tracks, which instead of adding flavor to the songs come across as a distraction.
Incubus may not be the best band on the scene at the moment but they once again hold their own and offer up a strong album that helps them land a cut above the norm.
