Skrape is a band that comes with a LOT of buzz. Before the first single ('Waste') hit rock radio, the early buzz was that they were the second coming of Disturbed. This scared me, seeing as how I loathe Disturbed. Then, the single came out and the buzz got bigger and louder..."Uh Oh" was my first thought. Then, I got my hands on the album, and I must admit, I'm a little bit impressed.
Skrape is a Nu-Metal band that doesn't fit all the stereotypes (i.e.-they don't attempt to rap), all they do is plug in the guitars and kick ass. Granted, there were a couple of times in my initial listening to the album that I drew some parallels to Disturbed, but I quickly decided that this just wasn't the case; the difference between the two? Skrape is good.
This album is 40+ minutes of straight ahead heavy rock. Melody mixed with screaming, not a bad break from the annoyance levels of today's current roster of heavy rock bands. I fear though, that this band will be the next "thing" for all the Echo jeans, NY Yankee hat wearing heavy rock kids that fill our malls every weekend. I just hope they don't turn into the next Disturbed (or Papa Roach, or Head PE, or...), because that would be a tremendous waste of musical talent.
Quick Side Note To This Review: This CD
was recorded in the same Orlando Florida studio that Britney Spears and
N Sync use. That's kinda funny to me.
