Spiritual Beggars is a band for all of those who have spent hours playing air guitar to your parents old Deep Purple, Foghat and Mountain records, (yes records not CD's). That big rock sound is back and when you listen to this CD you can almost imagine yourself at a stadium and hearing the thousands of cheering fans screaming their approval when the band breaks into overdriven guitar leads and "big rock" choruses.
While the musicianship here is phenomenal
and the songs are very cool, none of the tunes reach the readily identifiable
realm of rock anthem that we expect from this style of guitar rock. This
isn't to say that this CD is a waste of time, not at all. You just won't
find a Smoke on Water, Hot Blooded or Mississippi Queen among the twelve
tracks, although "Until the morning" comes close. So you won't get
any rock anthems, you do get some kickass big rock tunes filled with powerful
vocals, kickass guitars and hard pounding drums, in this day and age that
is hard to find so if your guilty pleasure is the big rock sound, you can
do a lot worst than Spiritual Beggars. A worthy buy for those who miss
the days of stadium rock.
