Made For Broadway - Life Lessons
by Roses Unread - The Silver Lining
.
This pop punk band is from Johannesburg, South Africa and most of their gigs are performed there but, also having performed some shows in SoCal, they are not completely unknown to fans in the U.S. And there is likely to be a lot more demand for the band upon the release of Life Lessons, an effort filled with fast and punchy songs with hooks-a-plenty, both lyrical and musical. Singer Justin James is clearly having a ball behind the microphone and his energy is contagious on tunes like the joyous chaos of "Mayday Tonight," on "Move" which will incite you, like all of the album, to do just that, and on "Royalty" which is the album's radio-ready masterpiece. Another gem is "Together (Parallel Universe)" where James portrays a character who will go to any length to win his love, at least in his head, and the song's bright and bouncy melody and almost Outfield-like vocals make the scenario seem quite possible. The impressive set closes with "I Won't Apologize," a tune about a relationship, but the sentiment can also be applied to the music found on Life Lessons, about which the band more likely should be bragging.
