Javier Escovedo - Kicked Out of Eden

One of the musically blessed Escovedo clan that includes Sheila E., Pete, Coke and Alejandro Escovedo, Javier was a founding member of late '70s band the Zeros and the True Believers a decade later and he's been rarely heard from in recorded form since; this is only the second solo album of his career, coming four years after it predecessor. Fans of the long gone True Believers will enjoy cuts like "Beaujolais" and "Bad and Good," both of which feature lots of searing guitar as most songs here do. "Gypsy Son" approximates a late '60s-style garage rock freak out where Escovedo lets fly with wild guitar licks and frantic vocals. A lifetime full of garage, punk and pop sensibilities collide nicely throughout; Escovedo may have been kicked out of Eden but he's just fine right where he is.
