Opium Denn - Demarkation

.
The group Opium Denn likes to shroud itself in mystery. For instance, its bio says the band is from "everywhere and all the time..." The act is also said to use HEV (Health-Science Enhanced Vibrations "to create music that gives the listener an unusual buzz." And while it's questionable whether or not such an extra "buzz" is actually emitted from this 9-track album, it is nevertheless 37-minutes of high quality music.

Perhaps this group is so vague about its personnel and its geographic origins because it would rather have all focus placed upon the music alone. And to its credit, the music on Demarkation is quite god.

Songs like "Eyes to the Sky" speak to the need for meaning in life, while "I Am A Feeling," which comes in three separate parts, delves into just what it means to be human. The album's title cut features rocking electric guitar that brings to mind Jimi Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower," and a emotive lead vocal. One picks up a few fairly obvious classic rock influences throughout the project. And while the band many times wears its influences on its sleeve, this practice is not at all a bad thing. The album's familiarity is also one of its greatest pleasures.
